Congrats on all the upcoming Brokieversaries!

I'm an even more latecomer, I first saw it in July 2007.

Malick has...shall we say, a different way of telling a story. But if you can tolerate his slow and meandering ways, it's a terrific movie. Even years later, I can close my eyes and see scenes from A New World. No one knows for sure, but I believe it is more accurate than many movies with that theme.

It's certainly slow and meandering. It is more accurate--though when it comes to the plot, maybe not so much.

Spoiler Alert:

I think they should have covered up Colin Farrell's tattoos.

And I quote...

"the practice became widespread again in the 18th century through sailors returning from Polynesia (popularizing the term "tattoo") and saw a major aristocratic craze in the Victorian era (mid-19th century) when royalty like King Edward VII got them, making them fashionable for the upper classes before declining to marginalized groups until modern resurgence."

Someday, tattoos will be a fashion choice associated with old age, the way blue hair used to be.

I have wondered what some (many) of them will look like when the skin starts to sag.

I may actually watch "The New World" this weekend to see if my memory of Colin Farell's tattoo is correct. The other thing that sticks in my mind is that it was "tribal"--I think that's the term-- but not Indigenous American tribal.
