Phillip Dampier:
It's bad enough I already have more crowns than British royalty, but this morning's crown prep turned into another full blown root canal.  I think I've had three.  The good news is that root canals are the most over-hyped "painful" procedure in dentistry.  It's not really anymore painful than any other dental treatment involving the drill, except after the numbing meds wear off.  Then it's time for the Vicodin or other pain meds.  There is nothing worse than standing in a pharmacy waiting for a prescription as the numbing meds wear off.  I usually find a day or two of prescription meds are all that's needed.

The most painful part of the whole thing is the bill.  For a tooth, it's $915 for the crown and $800 for the root canal.  And guess who doesn't have dental insurance....

And the silliest thing, I actually thought a moment about what someone like Jack or Ennis would have done - probably a tooth pull.  One of the critics who didn't love BBM complained that casting Hollywood "pretty boys" in the starring roles made it an "uncredible" film.  In his eyes, a realistic portrayal, especially in later years, would have been a lot harder look on their faces and at least one tooth missing here and there.

In all of the things in our "real lives" it continues to amaze me that I still wonder "what would Jack or Ennis have done."

Yes, if they couldn't stand the pain anymore they would have had it pulled....no way would WE pay that much to save a tooth, just don't have that kind of money.

We also don't go to the dentist...I haven't been in about five years...we just floss and brush and cross our fingers. Don hasn't been in over ten...

We wouldn't be too concerned about just having it pulled; especially if it was a back tooth that is not too obvious.

It is the same thing by the way with eye care. I have not had my eyes checked since school. Don had his checked once a few years ago when he got a splinter in one while sawing a fallen tree...had to go the emergency room to get it out and they checked his eyesight then.

we don't keep insurance on ourselves. We don't go for well checks...only go to the doctor when we are injured or so sick we HAVE to go.

I have a friend in England who is outraged and appalled that we are on well water!

He says it is the governments responsibility to supply basic necessities to its citizens!
