Hi David,
Did you know that John Cougar Mellencamp is from Indiana?

I am listening to albums.  The cool thing about LP's is info in the liner notes ;-).

Rain on the scarecrow, blood on the plough...

He's from Seymour (we pronounce it SEE-more), a little town down the road from me in between Indianapolis and Louisville. He's an icon around here. Did you know his song "Small Town" is about Seymour?

Well I was born in a small town
And I live in a small town
Prob'ly die in a small town
Oh, those small communities
All my friends are so small town
My parents live in the same small town
My job is so small town
Provides little opportunity
Educated in a small town
Taught the fear of Jesus in a small town
Used to daydream in that small town
Another boring romantic that's me
But I've seen it all in a small town
Had myself a ball in a small town
Married an L.A. doll and brought her to this small town
Now she's small town just like me
No I cannot forget where it is that I come from
I cannot forget the people who love me
Yeah, I can be myself here in this small town
And people let me be just what I want to be
Got nothing against a big town
Still hayseed enough to say
Look who's in the big town
But my bed is in a small town
Oh, and that's good enough for me
Well I was born in a small town
And I can breathe in a small town
Gonna die in this small town
And that's prob'ly where they'll bury me

I'm glad you like his music Lynne. I do too! :D

I didn't know that about Small Town and Seymour.  Neat factoid!

You have a right to be proud.  My hometown's claim to fame is Dinah Shore.  So it goes...

Did you know I lived in Indiana til I was six?  My mama made me memorize our address even - 24 Webb Street, Hammond Indiana.  :-)

Oh I used to LOVE Dinah Shore! So did my Mom! We watched her talk show every day back in the 70's! My very first signs of being gay! ;)

You lived in Hammond Lynne? I didn't know that! Lake county. Did you ever go to the Indiana Dunes, Singing Sands beach and Lake Michigan while you lived up there? Indiana Dunes is one of the most beautiful areas of my state. Very rare plants grow there, plants that cannot be found in other parts of the country. And the sand "sings" when you step on it. It makes a vibration. I think it's because of the quartz, but you can hear it. It hums. :D

:) ;) :) @ Dinah Shore. We're just salty because she always said she was from Nashville instead of Winchester.

I didn't know about the sands.  It sounds remarkable.  I really need to visit there as an adult.  My memories of that time are vague.  I am told I have seen Lake Michigan and been to a Wrigley Field...:)

I was not born in Indiana - I was born just over the border  at St. Francis Hospital, Blue Island. I guess I am a 'displaced Hoosier??  Who knew?

We're listening to Sweet Home Chicago, now!

I was born at St. Francis Hospital too Lynne, but it's in Beech Grove, on the south side of Indy!!

All of these coincodences between the two of us! :)

I'm hearing those planes out there again.  :-\

It always starts around 11:00. Passenger service to Indianapolis stops around midnight, and the freight starts coming in about an hour before the last passenger flights, which is right now.

So needless to say, I'm thinking of all of you right now. :)
