What Are You Doing for New Year's Eve?
Penthesilea:
My friend Kerstin and her kids came over. We were three adults and five kids for New Year's Eve, clearly outnumbered .
Our food and evening went according: "Schnitzel mit Pommes" for food (=escalope and French fries, all children love it) and board games. We had much fun and even the smaller kids made it to midnight. Kerstin's daughter only barely, but my youngest stayed up till after 1AM and still didn't get noticably tired. It was the first time he was allowed to stay up and see the countdown and the fireworks, and he was over the moon :).
The older kids stayed up till 2.30am and we adults till 3.30am

Aw, that's cute. It's easy to forget how exciting it was to be allowed to stay up late with the grown-ups when you were a kid. Sounds like a perfect New Year's Eve, Chrissi. 8)

I'd love to hear how all those evenings turned out. Natali, what did you bring to your potluck? Shasta, how about you? To tell you the truth, because I've been kind of underslept lately, we didn't do much to acknowledge the new year last night. Today, we went out for pho. So I love living your adventures vicariously.
Mr. Meno and I had a phase of about 7 years when we had an open house on New Year's afternoon. Those were fun, but haven't had one since Mini-Meno was born. These days, I do most of my drinkin and talkin and all between the hours of 10am and 3pm, often at playgrounds.
:)
I am really grateful for where I am in life, and also happy to read about different kinds of adventures that other people are on.

My night was great fun!
We were in a house that was huge--with open rooms so that everyone was mostly together, but could be doing different things--some eating at a table, some playing board games, some playing pool, etc. It was very nice. Good food, too. There were about 20 adults and 10 kids. I played Balderdash and some other board games and left at around 1:30 AM. Quite enjoyable to me--someone who really likes to stay at home. :P ;D

Well, I brought home made plantain chips. I also made a Guacamole. It's not from my country of origin but my friend, the one who hosted the party, wanted one so I complied. Most of the dishes were french because many of the guest were from France. We also had some Italian cuisine courtesy of the Argentinians who were there.

We all assembled with a group of friends in the Ardennes. 6 families, 25 people in all. We had gourmet on new year's eve. That was fun and easy as everyone was cooking their own food. Afterwards the kids baked small pancakes.
When dinner was over we had a casino night. We had roulette, black jack, poker and some more card games. It turned out my youngest daughter was very good at playing roulette. She broke the bank!! :o
It was a good time all around with Spanish Cava wine at midnight (and coke for the kids).
Happy New Year everyone. :)
