A song that makes me think of Brokeback Mountain
moremojo:
Here's another haunting classic imbued with much of the bittersweet flavor of Brokeback. It's "Wildfire", the opening track in the 1975 album Blue Sky-Night Thunder by Michael (Martin) Murphey. Sad, mysterious, and eerie, this Western-themed song poetically suggests love lost and hopefully regained in a life beyond our present earthly tribulation--much as one might imagine Ennis dreaming of reunion with Jack once death has closed his tired, battered eyes for the last time. Here are the lyrics:
She comes down from Yellow Mountain
On a dark flat land she rides
On a pony she named Wildfire
With a whirlwind by her side
On a cold Nebraska night
Oh, they say she died one winter
When there came a killing frost
And the pony she named Wildfire
Busted down his stall
In a blizzard he was lost
She ran calling Wildfire
She ran calling Wildfire
She ran calling Wildfire
By the dark of the moon I planted
But there came an early snow
There's been a hoot owl howlin' by my window now
For six nights in a row
She's coming for me I know
And on Wildfire we're both gonna go
We'll be riding Wildfire
She ran calling Wildfire
She ran calling Wildfire
On Wildfire we're going to ride her
We're gonna leave sod bustin' behind
Get these hard times right on out of our minds
Riding Wildfire

Very good indeed, Scott; and incidentally, it reminds me of a song I LOVE, sung by Christie Moore but written by... does anybody out there know? An English songwriter I believe. It's entitled...
RIDE ON (I see it as Ennis's reminiscence of Jack, or dreaming of him older, waiting to meet again)
So you ride the finest horse I've ever seen
Standing sixty one or two, with eyes wild and green
And you ride the horse so well, hands light to the touch,
I could never go with you no matter how I wanted to
Ride on, see you,
I could never go with you no matter how I wanted to.
As you ride into the night, without a trace behind,
Run your claws along my gut, one last time.
I turn to face an empty space, where you used to lie,
And look for the spark that lights the night through the tear drop in my eye.
Ride on, see you,
I could never go with you no matter how I wanted to.
Ride on...
Jane:
Sorry I dont have the words to this brilliant song, but it fits Jack perfectly, I think anyway.
Blue Eyes. Elton John. ..................sigh. :P

Well, then, there, Jane, lemme help ya out on this one:
Blue Eyes ~ lyrics by Gary Osborne, music by Elton John
Blue eyes
Baby's got blue eyes
Like a deep blue sea
On a blue blue day
Blue eyes
Baby's got blue eyes
When the morning comes
I'll be far away
And I'll say
Blue eyes
Holding back the tears
Holding back the pain
Baby's got blue eyes
And he's alone again
Blue eyes
Baby's got blue eyes
Like a clear blue sky
Watching over me
Blue eyes
I love blue eyes
When I'm by his side
Where I long to be
I will see
Blue eyes laughing in the sun
Laughing in the rain
Baby's got blue eyes
And I am home, and I am home again.

Sigh is right, Jane. Excellent call. (I took the liberty of changing the gender. Don't think anyone will mind. :))
Anya_Angie:
I don't think this song has been posted, but I was listening to it a few days ago, I've heard it many times but only yesterday did I think of Jack and Ennis, and I nearly cried. It's cheesy, but I am a hopeless romantic! In case you didn't know by now.
"A Time For Us"
Music by Nino Rota
(don't know who wrote the lyrics)
For the 1968 classic Romeo and Juliet
A time for us, some day there'll be
When chains are torn by courage born of a love that's free
A time when dreams so long denied can flourish
As we unveil the love we now must hide
A time for us, at last to see
A life worthwhile for you and me
And with our love, through tears and thorns
We will endure as we pass surely through every storm
A time for us, some day there'll be a new world
A world of shining hope for you and me
