Sigh.  I love Norah Jones.  That album helped get me through the first year of my son's life.  I'd put it on every evening when I put him in his high chair to eat his dinner.  It was so soothing.  For both of us.

Beautiful songs, beautiful voice... and you're right, SO soothing.
Will you stop playing with that radio of yours, I'm trying to get to sleep!

Uh-oh, big lump in my throat from that. Had to put my coffee down  :'(

I seem to be on a BBM double-whammy at the mo, having been a big-time Ennis-a-holic to begin with but now I've started to see all the hurt from Jack's POV too.  How can it get any sadder?  I don't know it but the lyrics seemed to be from Jack to me, but I think could also be Ennis in a way.  Awww...

I see them as being from Jack, too.  Especially this bit:  "Don't want to leave you really, I've invested too much time to give you up that easy to the doubts that complicate your mind."  But, yes, parts of it could be from Ennis as well.

How many times have you seen it thus far, Nic?  I remember it taking me until my third viewing, really, to fully see it from Jack's point of view.  Ever since then, I've hardly been able to see it any other way.  My heart aches for Ennis at the end because of his loss and the regret and guilt he must be overwhelmed with on top of his already overwhelming grief.  But it aches for Jack the whole rest of the time.
No more beans!

Don't know if it was mentioned but..

"A DIFFERENT CORNER" - especially the last two words..  ;)
[by George Michael]

I'd say love was a magical thing
I'd say love would keep us from pain
Had I been there, had I been there

I would promise you all of my life
But to lose you would cut like a knife
So I don't dare, no I don't dare

'Cause I've never come close in all of these years
You are the only one to stop my tears
And I'm so scared, I'm so scared

Take me back in time maybe I can forget
Turn a different corner and we never would have met
Would you care

I don't understand it, for you it's a breeze
Little by little you've brought me to my knees
Don't you care

No I've never come close in all of these years
You are the only one to stop my tears
I'm so scared of this love

And if all that there is, is this fear of being used
I should go back to being lonely and confused
If I could, I would, I swear

Wow.  Hello, Ennis.

Try this one called "Dear John" by the rock band Styx - written by one band member about another who died relatively young from the complications of lifelong alcoholism:

Dear John, I knew you
About as well as anyone
We were the wild ones
So sure those days would never end
Now they're only memories my friend

Dear John I'll see you
Some day again

I swear I saw you
On a crowded street today
I almost called your name
Thinking of all those yesterdays
Heaven help me
How I miss my friend

Dear John I'll see you
Some day again

There'll be celebration
When all will be revealed
We'll have a reunion
High on a hill

Dear John how are you
God knows it's heaven where you are
Find some peace there
May it never end

Dear John my heart knows
We'll meet again
Dear John I'll see you....
Some day again.
No more beans!

Just a couple of new ones I thought of today to add to the list.

The sweetest feeling.(at the reunion perhaps?) :)
If you leave me now.(Chicago)
That last one could be played as they part for the first time when they come down from the mountain or at the end after the big row as Ennis drives away. :'( :'(

Here's a song that would make great background music to any continuation of Ennis's story that strives to provide hope for that lonely cowboy, such as Tom Forster's beautiful fanfic 'Ennis' (see our fanfic board here). The song is "Try and Love Again", a track on the classic 1976 Eagles album Hotel California. Here are the lyrics, by Randy Meisner:

When you're out there on your own
Where your memories can find you
Like a circle goes around
You were lost until you found out
What it all comes down to

One by one
The lonely feelings come
Day by day, they slowly fade away

Ooh, the look was in her eyes
You never know what might be found there
She was dancing right in time
And the looks she made so fine
LIke the music that surrounds her

Should I stay or go?
I really want to know
Would I lose or win
If I try and love again?

gonna try and love again
I'm gonna try and love again
gonna try and love
gonna try and love

Right or wrong, what's done is done
It's only moments that we borrow
But the thoughts will linger on
of the lady and her song
When the sun comes up tomorrow
Well, it might take years to see
Through all these tears
Don't let go
When you find it you will know

Oh, Gonna try and love again
gonna try and love again
Sometimes lose, sometimes win,
Sometimes you need a friend
gonna try, gonna try
gonna try, gonna try....

We love you, Ennis.

   The Spanish version is first, the English one is underneath.  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Unbreak My Heart (Regresa A Mi)

No me abandones así
hablando sólo de ti.
Ven y devuelveme al fin
la sonrisa que se fue.
Una vez rabbit hutchs tocar tu piel
el hondo suspirar.
Recuperemos lo que se ha perdido.

Regresa a mí,
elephantreme otra vez,
borra el dolor
que al irte me dio
cuando te separaste de mí.
Dime que sí
Ya no quiero llorar,
regresa a mí.

Extraño el amor que se fue,
extraña la dicha elephantn.
Quiero que vengas a mí
y me vuelvas s querer.
No puedo rabbit hutchs si tú no rabbit hutchs,
tienes que llegar.
Mi vida se apaga sin ti a mi lado.

[Chorus]

No me abandonas así,
hablando sólo de ti.
Devuelveme la pasión de tus brazos.

[Chorus]

Il Divo

*****************

For anyone who wants a translation - this is actually a Spanish translation of Unbreak My Heart by Toni Braxton

Don't leave me in all this pain
Don't leave me out in the rain
Come back and bring back my smile
Come and take these tears away
I need your arms to hold me now
The nights are so unkind
Bring back those nights when I held you beside me

Un-break my heart
Say you'll love me again
Undo this hurt you caused
When you walked out the door
And walked outta my life
Un-cry these tears
I cried so many nights
Un-break my heart
My heart

Take back that sad word good-bye
Bring back the joy to my life
Don't leave me here with these tears
Come and kiss this pain away
I can't forget the day you left
Time is so unkind
And life is so cruel without you here beside me

 :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Amazing how fitting it is isn't it? :)
Anya that's a great song, what's it from?  A musical or a movie?

Unbreak My Heart (Regresa A Mi)
:'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( is right with that song.  I don't like that particular style of ballads but the emotion a good singer can put into it combined with the words really breaks me up.
Old Brokeback got us good and it sure ain't over
