Holleran is famed for his Dancer from the Dance, and is considered one of the greats in Queer literature. His take on the film offer some great observations and insights. Very worth reading.

Thanks for posting this, Starboardlight. It was well written, thoughtful and made me cry. I disagree with a few parts, including (obviously):

Although Brokeback is too painful a movie to watch many times,

but he made some excellent points, as well.

Thanks for posting this, Starboardlight. It was well written, thoughtful and made me cry. I disagree with a few parts, including (obviously):

Although Brokeback is too painful a movie to watch many times,

but he made some excellent points, as well.

I do think that for many people it is true. My brother and cousin have seen it only once, and while they thought it was great, they have no desire to experience that pain again. for the rest of us, it's not so much that we're masochistic, but I think along with the pain, we see the beauty too.
