The view from my deck, Kapiti Island in the centre (sorry, this is four old chemical pictures stitched together)
Sometimes you can see Mt Taranaki to the left and/or Ruapehu to the right, both 250 km away. (only Ruapehu, and hard to find, in this one).
Ruapehu is an active volcano.
Taranaki is Fuji-like (it played as Fuji in The Last Samurai)

My parents travelled to New Zealand about 3 1/2 years ago. They spent an entire month in New Zealand, and then cruised from New Zealand all the way to Los Angeles, stopping at some of the different islands along the way. The entire trip took three months! My mother passed away about 6 months after returning from the trip, but my father still talks about New Zealand and how beautiful it was there, and how friendly everyone was. You are lucky to live  in such a beautiful part of the world. Thanks again for posting those pictures.

Here's a better version of the panorama, I took this morning. The island was in cloud/rain the first time, so I took a second version a few minutes later, hence the strange look in the middle.

The shed next door on the right (revealed since the hedge was trimmed), while an eyesore, is a good talking point: it's where the late Bill Jackson used to work, and young Peter played around.

Today is Matariki, the Maori New Year, marked by the first appearance of the Pleiades. It's more and more being celebrated as a uniquely NZ occasion.

Except that the houses are all made of wood. The gulch/chasm between us and them is an earthquake fault line. (But it hasn't done anything for over 150 years, touch wood).

Since summer is already here, and some of you might be thinking of doing some travelling I decided to post some picture, not just of where I live, but also of places I have visited in Spain, in case you're interested in coming here. Most tourists who come to this country limit themselves to Madrid and Barcelona, so I'm posting pictures of other places, that are also worth visiting.


I'm going to start with Madrid because that's where I live:

Madrid's Royal Palace. No, the king doesn't live there. It's a museum.

The Canary Islands: Lanzarote and Tenerife


A volcanic beach of Tenerife Island (Playa Jardin)


A church in Lanzarote Island. The whole island is volcanic, so the entire ground is made of ashes.



Timanfaya's Park in Lanzarote. There are one hundred of actives volcanos there. The ground is still warm. If you sit down on the ground, your behind will burn. No kidding!


Lanzarote's vineyards. They grow wine grapes from the ashes. They actually make one of the best white wines from Spain.



Cadaqués, Catalonia (Cataluña)


The beautiful town of Cadaqués at the north of Catalonia. Spanish painter Salvador Dali lived there for over 50 years. He did most of his works there. One of the most beautiful places I have visited in Spain. It's 3 hours drive from Barcelona.

One of the many peeble beaches in Cadaqués. The beaches are perfect of diving.


Dali's house in Port Lligat Bay, Cadaqués. It's a very curious house. It was originally a fisherman's shak, but Dali turned it into a house. It's not so big inside.  It has the form of a labyrinth, more or less. The living room is decorated with portraits of famous men who wore their mustaches as Dali did. The house also has a pool in the form of a penis. La piscina peniforme, he called it. (I don't have a  picture of it, sorry).

I can never resist a challenge. Googling found this. Click on "Piscina", and when it's open, you can look all around and overhead, and go up, by clicking and dragging on the picture. If it looks like a penis, it's a penis with a needle stuck in it - very Daliesque.

I've seen some of the volcanic scenery of the Canaries - in a gay porn video called Volcanoes.

Thanks for the link Shuggy. When I went there I couldn't tell pool had the form of a penis. But the guide told us it did, but that it was a surreal penis, a la Dali.  But my friend thought the same you do, that it was a penis with a needle stuck in it. The whole house is very Daliesque but there's a lot of Gala in it too. I loved Cadaqués. No massive constructions are allowed there, no tall buildings either. The neighbors make sure Dali's wishes to keep the town in it's original shape are respected, because he made Cadaqués what it is right now. Cadaqués was a small fisherman's villa in the beginning of the 20th century (Dali's father was born there), and Dali put it on the map.  Lots of famous people went there to visit him: artist, poets, writers, actors and so on. Rumor has it that Dali and spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca lived a hot affair in Cadaqués.
