Hi Alexander,
Glad you found this forum to talk about the movie.

I thought the director and actors did a great job with the sex scenes.  If I would pick one to be a little unrealistic it would be against the car in the rain.  I mean, poor Kay was just jammed up against the car door in front.......

Of course, I would like some of the scenes to be longer, because they were beautiful and well acted by Max & Hanno, but maybe we'll see more in Freier Fall part 2  :)

However back to the film, what did you guys think about the sex scenes? (The woods, the car, Kay's apartment and times after). Did you see them as unrealistic, too short, or perhaps too weak? I know the chemistry between not only the characters but actors is great, but sometimes I feel like the scenes could have been capable of being a bit better rather than being rushed forward onto. What are some ideas you'd have instead?

Hi Alexander,
To me the sex/lovescenes are just perpect.
I don't know if some scenes are unrealistic (physically), if they are it's not bothering me.

The scenes are short but intense, erotic but not porn.
The scenes serve the story and not the other way around.

A while ago I saw La vie dÁdele (about two lesbien women). A good movie and really great acting, but with a lot of prolonged to porn tending sexscenes.
Maybe nice to watch for anyone interested, but what does it add to the story?

You wrote: but sometimes I feel like the scenes could have been capable of being a bit better rather than being rushed forward onto

I'm curious what you mean by that?

Hi  :) Thanks for your responses.

butlers_fantasy: I've heard by many people that the car scene was unrealistic, however that didn't seem to bother me, since it didn't really look like it was already 'inside'  :-X but attempting in doing so.

Mariska: Yes, I was actually going to mention that film, In english it's called 'Blue is the warmest color', I saw that a few weeks ago. The sex scenes in that movie were like porn and took away a lot of good things about the movie, where as to Free Fall I'm glad they didn't do that.

When I mean being rushed forward onto, there was a part in Kay's apartment that they were kissing and then Kay flipped to his side and Marc already began thrusting onto him? (Sorry to sound perverted but this bothered me a bit). I mean I think it could have been better if I dont know...uh...Marc showed some effort putting it in first and then doing it?! It went a bit too fast but overall it was realistic because more other LGBT films actors haven't really done it this good.

Also, about a sequel...there won't be one? I talked to the French facebook page of the movie, they said that the director would rather have the audience interpret how things would go out rather than making another movie. As well, Free Fall will be released on DVD in September 2014. I

Yes, in the audio comments they were clear about this: everyone should find their own interpretation of the ending and how things will develop.

But in the audio comments of the movie they made a joke. During the last scene (marc running) they said something like: "the open ending makes you want part 2 (in German: "macht lust auf teil 2"). In about 5 years Freier fall 2". And then they all laughed.
I don't know if it was a joke.
And I don't know if the fact that the ending was supposed to be open for own interpretation, excludes that there will be a part 2 some day.

Do you have any idea if the people from the french facebook literally read/heard that the director said something about not making a part 2?
I read nothing at all about a part 2, not positive and not negative. But maybe there are interviews we didn't read.

I had this feeling during the car scene. I thought: huh? They don't speak a word, kiss one time and then....while Marc was supposed to unexperienced?
But again, I don't care because I liked the scene. The only thing that bothered me was they didn't use a lube.

A part of review on ibdm:

My only issue with the movie is (now I'll get spoilery):
I wish the conflict wouldn't have been so overly dominant. Of course that's what the movie is about, but love is also something positive (and something that can set you free, which the ending shows beautifully) and there's so much fighting and denial going on that the nice aspects fade away. But that's of course only my personal opinion. I guess my heart is just a bit broken because Kay&Marc didn't make it. Though maybe someday they will, who knows. :-)

I can agree with this.
The conflict is central to the story, but there are a lot of scenes Marc is agressive or simply not kind to Kay.
That bothered me.

If I could change something in the movie it would be this: less/shorter Bettina scenes and more nice moments between the guys.
Maybe that's why I want a sequel. Marc has to make up something to Kay.

If you'd like, you can message them here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Free-Fall-un-film-de-Stephan-Lacant/1443310345902907

A sequel: Unfortunately I only speak English & Spanish, not German  :'( therefore I can't understand anything they're saying in the commentary nor in the deleted scenes (I own the German DVD Version of the film), but from what they were saying about a sequel, I mean I can take it as a joke but of course most people like us are unsure since we really want a sequel, so I think Stephen Lacant currently wouldn't want to produce a sequel, but maybe in the following years he might?

Perhaps another director may make a sequel for the film, that can happen. One of my favorite films, "Silent Hill" was made in 2006, and the director said he was planning to make a sequel but in the end dropped out. However another director decided to make the sequel and still utilized the same cast members and everything, which he did (but most people didn't like the movie either way).

But yes, the ending does leave an opening for a sequel, perhaps someone in the future may take advantage of this.

I enjoy reading the  fanfictions that there are of the movie. Here are the best ones:

 (http://nocturneworld.com/free-fall-part-2-renaissance/, http://archiveofourown.org/tags/Freier%20Fall%20%7C%20Free%20Fall%20(2013)/works, https://www.fanfiction.net/movie/Free-Fall-Freier-Fall/ ).

If you read all of them (which were written by different people), I can assume that weeks/months pass by after the events of the first film, Marc gets the guts to try to find Kay, but has to take care of the baby that he had with Bettina since she can't do it herself (and leaves it to Marc). Marc gets Kay's address (since he is a policeman after all), goes to Kay's apartment (which is a several minutes/hours away) and finds him. Kay isn't interested at first until Marc explains to him the break up with Bettina, and in the end they get back together and possibly raise the child.

However, I'd prefer that there be a novel published as a sequel to the movie? That'd be pretty awesome.

Back to the film, In the scene were Marc & Kay were doing it on the car, I don't think lube needed to be involved since it was raining ( a lot ) and they were soaking wet. But I do agree that they are erotic and romantic.

I'm with you, I think all the scenes were well-done, there isn't any that I don't like.

There was a perfect place for one more, after they fight at Kay's apartment.  I've already made up dialogue in my mind for it, and how it could lead to a beautiful scene   ::).  And a small thing they could have done to imply it, was have Marc's shirt buttoned in the scene, and unbuttoned in the next, when he is at home and looks in on Bettina and the baby.

Ok, got a question.  How long were Marc & Kay together?  Bettina was pretty far along in the pregnancy, and Kay left when the baby was maybe a month old, does that sound about right?  So maybe 4 months from start to finish?

Doing some research on German riot police, in case I decide to do fanfic, found this:

Egg on their faces: German police trash their new £740,000 'riot-proof' water cannon just by pelting it with eggs and tennis balls
Published: 10:54 EST, 22 April 2014  | Updated: 16:09 EST, 22 April 2014

It weighs 33 tons, is made of solid steel and is supposed to be capable of knocking back crowds of rioters in the face of bricks and Molotov cocktails.

But one German police force has been left feeling rather washed out after they managed to damage their brand new €900,000 (£740,000) water cannon simply by pelting it with eggs and tennis balls.

Having taken possession of the Austrian-made 'WaWe 10' water cannon, Thuringia Police decided to test its performance with a series of mock demonstrations.

Pretending to be rioters, officers at first decided to hurl a number of less dangerous items such as bottles, tennis balls and eggs.

But they quickly found they had caused dents the size of fists in the armoured glass, according to The Local which cited broadcaster MDR.

A police spokesman said it did not expect such widespread damage.

What's perhaps more worrying for the government is that it has ordered 78 of the vehicles for use by forces across the country.

Germany's interior ministry has now written to the manufacturer, Rosenbauer, for an explanation.

Water cannon, which fire jets of water at high velocity, are commonly used as an effective tool to disperse riots because they are powerful but non-lethal.

The Rosenbauer Group is one of the world's three largest manufacturers of fire-service vehicles, based in Leonding, Austria.
