I listen to it almost every day at work.
Brings back fond memories of my early days here at Bettermost

You are lucky to be able to listen at work!!

This morning as my son was making pancakes for me, he played "Gimme Some Lovin" with Steve Winwood singing followed by "Can't Find My Way Home" also with Steve singing (Eric Clapton wrote the song). Both reminded me of Jack and Ennis...I guess just about enni song reminds me of them, these days!!

HEATHER MASSE is a Maine-born singer/songwriter who appears on A Prairie Home Companion sometimes. I love her voice and her manner of expression. Here’s a sample from a late October broadcast ( I will have to rely on an admin to actually embed the script):

At the end she sings “Next Time” which is not on her latest CD, Bird Songs. IT is written by Rich Dworsky of the APC cast. Here are a few lyrics:

“There’s always a chance that a rainbow may be shining
Just beyond the hill we’ve yet to climb
And I know that a garden can bloom and then can blossom
But I think we’ll have to wait until next time.”

I Will Rise

There is a song which my congregation sings often which never fails to remind me strongly of Jack. It's called "I Will Rise":

There’s a peace I’ve come to know
Though my heart and flesh may fail
There’s an anchor for my soul
I can say “It is well”

Jesus has overcome
And the grave is overwhelmed
The victory is won
He is risen from the dead

Chorus:
And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles’ wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise
I will rise

There’s a day that’s drawing near
When this darkness breaks to light
And the shadows disappear
And my faith shall be my eyes

Jesus has overcome
And the grave is overwhelmed
The victory is won
He is risen from the dead

Chorus:
And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles’ wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise
I will rise

And I hear the voice of many angels sing,
“Worthy is the Lamb”
And I hear the cry of every longing heart,
“Worthy is the Lamb”

Chorus:
And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles’ wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise
I will rise"

And, another plus, the melody is very similar to Pat Methany's song that Annie Proulx listened to repeatedly when she was writing about the Dozy Embrace!

I'll have to give this a listen - I still need to listen to the one that inspired Annie Proulx for the Dozy Embrace.

After I first saw Brokeback, many, many songs reminded me of Ennis and Jack - one in particular that I have since heard reminded others too was What Hurts The Most by Rascal Flatts - I just couldn't get the lyrics out of my mind.
“Only within the moment of time represented by the present century has one species -- man -- acquired significant power to alter the nature of his world.”
~Rachel Carson~

Are suggestions still being taken? If so, I heard a good one. A recent release by American singer-songwriter Ray LaMontagne. (apropos name...)

So your home town's bringing you down
Are you drowning in the small talk
and the chatter

Or you gonna step into line like your daddy done
Punching the time and driving life's long letter

You've been howling at the moon like a slackjawed fool
And breaking every rule they can throw on
But one of these days it's gonna be right soon
You'll find your legs and go and stay gone

Young man full of big plans and thinking about tomorrow
Young man going to make a stand
You beg, steal you borrow
You beg you steal you borrow

Well all the friends that you knew in school
They used to be so cool and they just bore you

Well look at them now, already pulling the plow
So quick to take to grain and some mourn you

Young man full of big plans and thinking about tomorrow
Young man going to make a stand
You beg steal you borrow
You beg you steal you borrow

Dreaming of the day
You're gonna pack your bags
Put the miles away
Oh, just grab your girl and go
Where no one knows you
What will all the old folks say?

So the home town's bringing you down
Are you drowning in the small talk and the chatter?
Or you gonna step into line like your daddy done
Punching the time and driving life's long letter

Young man full of big plans and thinking about tomorrow
Young man going to make a stand
You beg, steal you borrow
You beg you steal you borrow

Yes, they are, and they are encouraged. :)
