I think they'd be really busy because Easter's when the heifers all decide to calve at once, and when the ewes all decide to lamb at once!! I've been reading The Cowboy Way and helpin those mothers birth their younguns isn't pretty! You need one cowboy on either side with a leather strap and...well I'll leave the rest to your imagination!!

Thanks moremojo !

Your comment is this:
Neither man seemed particularly religious, though religion (specifically Christianity) was certainly a feature in their mutual environment. I have a hunch that neither Ennis nor Jack would have made much of Easter (though they might have if the day would have provided any sort of excuse to arrange another fishing trip!).
...

Religion is mentioned in the movie, as well as in Annie's story? More than once??

Remember that Ennis got married to his lady, in a church!! ??

Did Jack marry his lady in a church?? Any proof in the movie and/or in Annie's story??

Does it puzzle you that both Ennis and Jack talked about religion in the movie?? Why??

As it is Holy Friday, we must not forget that Jack got killed, maybe murdered; anyway, he is not alive after an episode!! Is that a pentecostal idea of Annie?? It seems so to me!! To you too??
Like Jack is Christ in a way, yes, yes!! ??

And Ennis realizes that too!! ??
...

An excuse for a fishing trip would have maybe be Easter for Ennis and Jack, could be so, and/or it was so before in one or more of those past years??

Jack not letting son play TV while eating with his wife, father-in-law and mother-in-law, was that Easter??

Happy Holy Friday!!

Hugs!!

Thanks Front-Ranger!

Wow, wow, for saying this:
I think they'd be really busy because Easter's when the heifers all decide to calve at once, and when the ewes all decide to lamb at once!! I've been reading The Cowboy Way and helpin those mothers birth their younguns isn't pretty! You need one cowboy on either side with a leather strap and...well I'll leave the rest to your imagination!!
...

So birth is then at Easter!! So Ennis and Jack would have worked together then on Brokeback Mountain and/or on their own ranch (Ennis and Jack as a couple) and/or at Jack's parents place?? !!

Happy Holy Friday to you, your family and friends!!

Hugs!!

No, that was Thanksgiving which is celebrated in the US in late November, Artiste.

I would like to mention that Annie Proulx said in a talk about Brokeback Mountain that Christ was described as riding into the city just before He was crucified on an UNBROKEN colt. She was very much aware of the parallels to the New Testament and used them deliberately.
