A story about how everyone got along after the Civil War, were all hunky dory friends and so on....

Why am I not surprised that John Wayne is starring in this?

From IMDB:

140 minute documentary detailing the battle at Vimy Ridge at which Canadians fought. The film explores events that lead up to the battle, documents the racism, political maneuvering, and faulty equipments that the troops were forced to endure, and eventually tells the story of the unification of the Canadians as Canadians, regardless of the racial, ethnic or religious background. The film uses rare battle footage, and authentic re-enactments.

"W" is The War on Drugs (2007)
« Reply #2922 on: March 07, 2008, 12:35:23 am »
From: http://www.war-on-drugs.com/en/film.html
The War on Drugs is a film documentary about the war on drugs. The film shows how the war is being waged by examining the situation in Colombia and the United States.

In Colombia, the United States fights this drug war by attacking the supply chain. Under a large offensive named Plan Colombia, coca and poppy growing areas are sprayed on a huge scale to eradicate the crops. However, many years of fumigation has not reduced the extent of the growing areas. In many remote sections of Colombia, the peasants have no viable alternatives to cultivating the coca plant. The coca plant is the only sustenance product there.

Seven years after the start of Plan Colombia, the country exports more drugs than ever, due to expanding markets and restricted opportunities for Colombian farmers.

Kevin C. Whaley, Chief of International Operations of the DEA, lays out his organization's strategy. He explains why, in his opinion, the war on drugs will never end.

In the United States, drug prohibition is enforced by imposing harsh prison terms for all drug law offenders. The fates of Richard Paey and Sharanda Jones show the social, political and personal implications of these measures.

The War on Drugs is an analysis of a war that started almost 40 years ago and shows no signs of subsiding.

I'm really confused about this documentary.  It seems like a DEA propaganda piece but then it has links to IPS, L.E.A.P. and Amnesty International.

I found this movie the other day when Paul asked if there are any movies about wars in Canada. John Candy's last film. Directed by Michael Moore ("Bowling for Columbine," "Sicko").

Bugs Bunny lectures his nephew Clyde about early America, inserting himself into events wherever possible.

Uncle Bugs:  "Know American history?  Why we rabbits have made  American history!"

George Washington:  "Martha, you'll have to run the candy stores alone, while I'm off to fight the war."  (Apparently, a reference to a chain of Martha Washington Candy Stores prevalent in the 1950s.)

"Z" is Zapata - El sueño del héroe

An evidently reviled film from the maker of WATER FOR CHOCOLATE.  It rates only 1-1/2 stars on IMDb (!)

Excerpt of one Comment:
I think everything's already said on all other comments, but its all true: This movie sucks; the script sucks; the actors suck; has awful historical flaws; is totally unrealistic; its nonsense; its absolutely wrong made; its lame; its an offense to a national hero, to Mexican culture, and to Mexican film industry!

I think this round was great!  It was challenging, fun and educational.  I had to actually use some brain cells and that hurt a little, but that's good isn't it? ;D

Re: ABCs at the Movies: Count UP!
« Reply #2927 on: March 07, 2008, 12:30:56 pm »
Announcing our next round: Count UP!

For this, we are going to focus on the number of words in the title of the movie. Here's the game: someone will start the round with a one word A movie, ie, Airplane! (although that's been played already, so it won't be Airplane!, I am just giving an example).

Then for the B movie, it needs to be a title with two words. C will have three words. D will have four words. And so it continues.

If you get to a point where you can't find a movie with the required number of words, then drop back to a one word title. So, say a player can't find a five word E title, then it would drop back to a one word E title, and the counting would begin again (F, two words, G, three words, etc.).

I am curious to see just how high we can go.

For this, every element in a title counts as a word: the, an, a, etc. So...THE ORDER would be a two word title, but it still could be played as an O movie.

Wildcard X: can be any letter, but must follow W with the right number of words: eg, if the W movie had three words, Wildcard X must have FOUR.

I hope this makes sense! Let me know if you have questions! Have fun!
