Jackson will always be famous, and the record-breaking sales of Thriller will endure in the annals of pop-music history, but I very much doubt that Jackson will ever reclaim his former status as the current "King of Pop" (despite the news that the twenty-fifth-anniversary edition of Thriller will include new material) and that any future music from him will be particularly well-received or lucrative. His notoriety for his bizarre personal behavior, including the suspicious interest he displays for children, will doubtlessly continue to overshadow his admittedly genuine talent and apparently enduring professional ambition.
I do continue to enjoy much of Jackson's music, though I do not describe myself as a fan. I think that much of the music from Thriller, including the title track, is overrated, with that same song's music video sadly overshadowing much more artistically accomplished examples of the genre. My favorite Michael Jackson song remains "Rock With You", from 1979's Off the Wall, and I still appreciate much of the earlier music from The Jackson 5.
