Clint Morris, a member of the Film Critics Circle of Australia, described Brokeback Mountain as "both a breath of fresh air in a summer full of conventional studio pap and fluffy family fare and a tour de force for its performers who, knock on wood, might have to start pressing their suits in order for the big night at the Kodak Theatre."
