Also, did anyone recognize Lord Gillingham?  The actor's name, Tom Cullen, was vaguely familiar.  But it took me forever to put it together:  he's the guy from "Weekend"!

OMG, so it is! Ditto for me, but how could I not recognise him when I loved him so much in 'Weekend'? (So that's what he was up to while Glen was in America? How could he??)

And, as himself:

I just watched the new season-opener. That Mr. Bates is a real hero!

Unfortunately, Mary is almost as hard to like as ever. I had hoped that the trials she has been through would mellow her out a little bit. Now, she seems to have at least two suitors who look a lot alike. Thanks for the pictures, now I know which is which!

Any Branson fans out there?  Allen Leech starred in an Irish film called "Cowboys and Angels" in 2003.  It's fun to see him play a very different type of character.

Allen Leech also plays a major role in "The Imitation Game." It was hard not to see him as Branson, oops, I mean Tom.  :-\

I had a disaster.
Series 4 was on last year when I was in the USA. I was ambivalent about watching it anymore so did not tape it.
Then when Series 5 started here (I think in October) I decided to buy Series 4 and only paid $14.  I taped series 5 while watching series 4 but did miss the first episode.  I finished watching series 4 before Christmas.
I started watching series 5 on Sunday (well episode 2) and thought I was deleting just that episode but I deleted the lot. >:(
All the shops are selling dvds of series 5 for $35 so think I will wait for a price fall.

Mary's other beau, Charles Blake, is played by Julian Ovenden, who happens to be an accomplished singer.  I saw him in "Showboat" and he has a lovely tenor voice.  It will be shown on PBS as part of the "Live from Lincoln Center" series.

Here's Maggie Smith on the Carol Burnett Show in 1975. Forty years ago!
