The great Noel Coward had to try to one-up Mr. Porter with his celebrity version, probably from the '50s.

A few choice lines:

The Brontes felt that they must do it,
Ernest Hemingway could----just----do it...

E. Allen Poe, ho ho ho, did it, but he did it in verse,
H. Beecher Stowe did it, but she had to rehearse.

In Texas some of the men do it,
Others drill a hole and then do it...

Teenagers squeezed into jeans do it,
Probably we'll live to see machines do it...

Each tiny clam you consume does it,
Even Liberace, we assume, does it...

Let's do it, let's fall in love!

Don't ask me why--perhaps the coming of Spring--but I've had this song on the brain lately.

"In the Spring a young man's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love."

Young man....but what does that have to do with Paul?

 :o

Tell him when l come up to him and ask to play the record, l'm gonna say: ''Voulez-vous jouer ce disque?''
'Voulez-vous, will you kiss my dick?'
Will you play my record? One-track mind!

I've got some fancy thoughts about you, but they have nothing to do with love!

(ETA:  I think I know.  I actually cooked shad roe this past weekend and the reference is in the song!)

Had to look this up, and found these two explanations:

bony flesh of herring-like fish usually caught during their migration to fresh water for spawning; especially of Atlantic coast

and

herring-like food fishes that migrate from the sea to freshwater to spawn

 :o :o

You eat baby herrings, Paul??!!??!!  :o :o

I'm shocked, I tell you, shocked!!!!

After all the grief you've given me over herrings, and here you happily confess that you actually cook and eat them???!!!

Never ever again will I let you taunt me about herrings!!!!!   >:( >:(

Oh yes, nice song btw.   8)

You're right, Lee!

But I think cod is better for fish-schlapping than herring, it's way more.....uhm....schlappy....I think.   8)
