Brokeback Mountain Wins Orange Bafta Awards

Brokeback Mountain swept the British Orange Bafta Awards today, besting favorite The Constant Gardener and securing more awards than any other film.

In all, director Ang Lee took home awards for Best Picture and Best Director, Jake Gyllenhaal won Best Supporting Actor, and Diana Ossana and Larry McMurtry shared the Best Adapted Screenplay Award.

Gyllenhaal thanked British audiences for supporting Brokeback Mountain as well as his earlier work, the cult favorite Donnie Darko.

Heath Ledger surprisingly was beaten for Best Actor by Philip Seymour-Hoffman, who won for his performance in Capote.  Many believe Ledger delivered a stronger performance in Brokeback Mountain than Gyllenhaal, and this was the second time Ledger was bested by Seymour-Hoffman in an awards ceremony.
