isabelle, i LOVE pj harvey.  i made a mix cd a long time ago after i first saw bbm of songs that reminded me of jack and ennis.  this one REALLY sticks out to me, and it's by pj as well:

"Sweeter Than Anything"

In photographs
I've seen him laugh
Hand overboard
Sun on his back

Summer was here
I remember it well
How he stood in the shade
How we both kissed and fell

How can this be
There's nothing left here

So sad our memory

Now he talks in his sleep
Says I've never known peace
And I don't know him now
He's a stranger to me

How can this be
There's nothing left here

We were never more than a dream
Brief as summer or spring
Sweeter than anything
We can hug on November, caress and nice oak.

Little darlin (I forget your name, sorry!), another PJ Harvey fan, yay! On which album is this song, please? It does fit well.
And toast (what's YOUR name, if you don't mind me asking?), yours is also VERY much Brokeback.
" - I'm vegan now."
"-Vegan? I thought you were still Church of England"

Now its whiskey and tobacco and bitter black coffee
A lonesome old dogie am I
But wakin up on the range
Lord I feel like an angel
Free like I almost could fly
Drift like a cloud out over the badlands
Sing like a bird in the tree
The wind in the sage sounds like heaven singin
A Song of Wyoming for me
A Song of Wyoming for me
[/color]

Especially this bit. Gives me the feeling I got, reading Annie Proulx's short story.

" - I'm vegan now."
"-Vegan? I thought you were still Church of England"

Keith Urban
Tonight I Wanna Cry

Alone in this house again tonight
I got the TV on, the sound turned down and a bottle of wine
Theres pictures of you and I on the walls around me
the way that it was and should have been surrounds me
I'll never get over you walkin' away

Well I've never been the kind to ever let my feelings show
And I thought that bein' strong meant never losin' your self-control
But I'm just drunk enough to let go of my pain
To hell with my pride
Let it fall like rain, from my eyes
Tonight I wanna cry.

Would it help if i turned a sad song on
"All by Myself" would sure hit me hard, now that you're gone
Or maybe unfold some old yellow lost love letters
It's gonna hurt bad before it gets better
But I'll never get over you by hidin' this way

Cause I've never been the kind to ever let my feelings show
And I thought that bein' strong meant never losin' your self-control
But I'm just drunk enough to let go of my pain
To hell with my pride
Let it fall like rain, from my eyes
Tonight I wanna cry.

oOOo

Well I've never been the kind to ever let my feelings show
And I thought that bein' strong meant never losin' your self-control
But I'm just drunk enough to let go of my pain
To hell with this pride
Let it fall like rain, from my eyes
Tonight I wanna cry.

mmhmm mm

Keith Urban

(what can I say? I'm a romantic)--JLScheib

The first time that ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
and the moon and stars were the gifts you gave
to the dark and the empty skies, my love
to the dark and the empty skies

The first time that ever I lay with you
and felt your heart beat close to mine
I thought our joy would fill the earth
and last till the end of time, my love,
and last till the ende of time

The first time that ever I kissed your mouth
I felt the earth turn in my hand
like the trembling heart of a captive bird
that was there at my command, my love,
that was there at my command.

it's a b-side to the "a perfect day elise" singles.  i can rip it for you and upload it to yousendit if you'd like.  it's really a beautiful song.  :)

toast - very good answer. I must say, at first I thought 'toast' referred to your humor, which I took to be dry! And very good song again.

Julie - why didn't I think of this one? I know this song!

And little darlin - I'll have to address you in this very intimate way if you prefer to keep your anonymity too - YES, I'd love to be able to hear this song. But I am still a bit dumb with computers, although I'm getting better, so you'll have to tell me what I have to do (and what 'yousendit' is, and how to get there... you get the picture  :P) Thank you!  :-*

Here I am again with another John Denver Song

I think this song would be perfect if Ennis (I would ride along with him)
if Ennis were to take Jack Twist's ashes to the top of Brokeback.
It could be read as part of the ceremony or sitting at the fire drinking whiskey
or it would make a perfect soundtrack for our slideshow after we got back to earth.

This song appears on seven albums,
and was first released as the title song on Windsong (that is the best version)

John Denver - Windsong

The wind is the whisper of our mother the earth
The wind is the hand of our father the sky
The wind watches over our struggles and pleasures
The wind is the goddess who first learned to fly

The wind is the bearer of bad and good tidings
The weaver of darkness, the bringer of dawn
The wind gives the rain, then builds us a rainbow
The wind is the singer who sang the first song

The wind is a twister of anger and warning
The wind brings the fragrance of freshly mown hay
The wind is a racer, a wild stallion running
The sweet taste of love on a slow summer’s day

The wind knows the songs of the cities and canyons
The thunder of mountains, the roar of the sea
The wind is the taker and giver of mornings
The wind is the symbol of all that is free

So welcome the wind and the wisdom she offers
Follow her summons when she calls again
In your heart and your spirit let the breezes surround you
Lift up your voice then and sing with the wind

Rest in Peace Jack Nasty, we love you.

This one makes me cry, everytime.
I like all this crying.

Toast - we'll have to find ourselves a Mountain named Brokeback, and hold a ceremony there, in honour of all those we love/have loved.
I LOVE that this song refers to the wind as SHE - rather unexpected, but great.
