Must be a "people's choice" type of thing right? Because there are some pretty bad movies on the "winning" list. Seriously, D.E.B.S. at #14? Yikes!

My biggest beef is the absence of My Beautiful Laundrette, Gods & Monsters, A Home at the End of the World and the beautiful Steam, The Turkish Bath.

It most definitely is a "people's choice" type of thing, and therefore should not be taken too seriously. I doubt I would rate "Priscilla Queen of the Desert" higher than "Maurice" for example. It is definitely about popularity rather than quality.

People here who disagree are free to vote otherwise since I believe the list updates periodically. People are free to continue to vote, and to write in other movies to vote for if it is not on the list.

The list order is to me fun but almost meaningless. The list with the nominees however makes a pretty good list of interesting films for people who might be inspired by BbM to see other films with same-sex story themes.

Like everyone, I find the list problematic. Great to see Brokeback as #1, and the next 6 or 7 films are great, too. But Maurice seems rather low at #20, not to mention Longtime Companion at #33. Sorry that The Adventures of Felix didn't get a place in the Top 50, as it's clearly good enough to make the Top 10. And such favorites as Alive and Kicking (aka Indian Summer) or Dona Herlinda and Her Son didn't even get nominated.

The only one of these that I've actually seen is Hedwig And The Angry Inch.  I remember it's very, very good and very smart.  I've only seen it once a long time ago, so I don't recall all the details.  But, I definitely recommend it.  Actually... I should probably see it again and remind myself!

LOL, I just discovered this thread and I'm having fun reading the list of 50 films in the first post here.  Actually I really agree that a lot of them are great movies (and hooray for BBM being no. 1 of course  ;D ).  But, I really question the order of some of the rest of the 50.  Now, I'm actually a big fan of But I'm a Cheerleader... but I've always thought of it as a sort of goofy, fun movie.  As much as I like it, I really can't imagine why it's listed above things like Maurice, Aimée & Jaguar and Fire.

And, Tipping the Velvet and Fingersmith are **awesome** but they were both BBC mini-series, not movies in the same sense as the other films listed.
I'm glad My Summer of Love was nominated... I think it's a very good, and overlooked film.

Still, overall the list of 50 looks great!  There are a number that I haven't seen and a large number that I really do think are great movies.  One film on the list that I remember really disliking is Better Than Chocolate.  It just didn't do it for me... it felt too didactic.  I also didn't really like the Birdcage too much.

I remember being pleasantly surprised by Trick.  It's not my favorite GLBT film of all time for sure... but I remember enjoying it.  Lists like this one are fun.  It's always interesting to see how people feel about any given list like this (and where things fall on the list).

I would put Fire, Gia, If these walls could talk, and Soldier's Girl ahead of The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love any day.
In fact, I'd love to re-arrange the list a little..  :)

I saw Shelter about a month ago.  It was at an independent GLBT film festival..  I posted about it before.  Its got its downs with the dead end job thing and the sister who does not have the responsibility to be raising a son.  Zach, the main character in the show cares for the child mostly and meets a great guy to do stuff with.  They surf and what not that leads to a more intimate relationship between the two.  Its has a good ending.  Good movie.  I'd recommend it.
