which Green Day song is that, Barb?

Brain Stew.  It's actually about being stoned.  But I tell ya, looking at him sometimes makes me feel a little high.  Or stunned.  Or both.

I'm having trouble trying to sleep
I'm counting sheep but running out
As time ticks by
Still I try
No rest for clock shops in my mind
On my own... here we go

My eyes feel like they're gonna bleed
Dried up and bulging out my skull
My mouth is dry
My face is numb
Fucked up and spun out in my room
On my own... here we go

My mind is set on overdrive
The clock is laughing in my face
A crooked spine
My senses dulled
Past the point of delerium
On my own... here we go

I've loved Green Day for years and what strikes me now is how much I can relate almost every one of their songs to Brokeback Mountain in some way.  I mean, can't you just see the above sentiments going through both of their minds in some ways?  Stoners or not, doesn't matter.

Or how about this one?

Macy's Day Parade

Today's the Macy's Day Parade
The Night of the Living Dead is on its way
With a credit report for duty calls
It's a lifetime guarantee
Stuffed in a coffin, 10% more free
Red light special at the mausoleum

Give me something that I need
Satisfaction guaranteed to you
What's the consolation prize?
Economy sized dreams of hope

When I was a kid I thought
I wanted all the things that I haven't got
Oh, but I learned the hardest way
When I realized what it took
To tell the difference between
Thieves and crooks
A lesson learned for me and you

Give me something that I need
Satisfaction guaranteed
Because I'm thinking about
A brand new home
The one I've never known
Cause now I know
It's all that I wanted

What's the consolation prize?
Economy sized dreams of hope
Give me something that I need
Satisfaction guaranteed
Because I'm thinking about
A brand new home
The one I've never known
And where it goes
And I'm thinking about
The only road
The one I've never known
And where it goes
And I'm thinking about
A brand new home
The one I've never known
Cause now I know
It's all that I wanted.

I just saw this tonight, thought it was cute.  Sorry if it has already been posted.

Pronouncing Jake's name

O-M-F-G!!!

It's so funny that he says the proper way to say his name is like Jill-In-Hall.  My ex-next-door-neighbor Jill is one of those people who NOTORIOUSLY mispronounces EVERYTHING.  She has no problem with Sarsgaard because she worships the man of that surname we all know and love, but she CANNOT for the life of her get Gyllenhaal right.  After her third time of botching the shit out of it, I go, "JILL. LISTEN. Think of your own first name.  Jill. In the hall.  Jill. In. Hall.  Got it?"  And she said it perfectly and has never botched it again.  This is the girl who pronouces Apache like it's A-POTCH-EE and gazebo like it's GA-ZAY-BO.

I just got chills when I watched/heard him do that.

I've always been one of those weirdos, I guess, who has a knack for pronouncing unusual surnames correctly.  In fact, my last boyfriend before I met my husband told me later that the thing that attracted him to me the most was how, when I was reading the batting order of our co-ed softball team out loud for the first time, not only did I not fuck up the pronunciation of his name (which was Militello - Jesus, how hard is that?  It's phonetic), but I did not fuck up any of the other weird ones, like Schwabe and Patel, either.  I told him it came from a lifetime of having my own (maiden) name skewered.  I mean, how friggin' hard is Zwitzer.  I used to say when someone started stumbling over it, "Think of it as starting with an "S."  They'd say it right and I'd go "There ya go."

I think that the trouble with people who mispronounce names is that they don't listen.  If you really pay attention and really hear it the first time someone says it correctly, there's no reason why you can't speak it the same way later.  Unless you're not really paying attention or hearing it in the first place.

thanks for sharing those lyrics, Barb. i am going to check out the songs. it stirred up a little creativity in me and I may need to create a photo to match the songs.  ;)

"I Will Follow you in to the Dark" by Death Cab for Cutie makes me think of Ennis & Jack.

I know this has nothing to do with Jake but I love Macy's Day Parade Barb! That's one of my favorite Green Day's... do you have their International Superhits?
‘cause the truth is, I already give him everythin’ I got to give, more than I ever even knew I had; ‘n it all for him, all of it, him who is my brother, my father, my child, my friend, my lover, my heart, my soul; my Ennis.

It means you've decided to see beyond the imperfection
