The link to this article in "LA Weekly" and accompanying pictures popped up on my f-list yesterday.  A really terrific article.  After reading it, this small quote stands out in my mind:  "....So much to miss.”   Yep.  An incalculable loss in countless ways.  I'm glad I read it, but I have to admit it did cause another wave of sadness that hasn't gone away yet.

Marie, I want to echo the others in thanking you for bringing that link here.  I've read it and its very interesting, and ... poignant.


Fran, I do like your interpretation of what MG meant to say. I think you're right and it fits very well with what other actors and crew have said previously - and how Heath himself explained the creation (his creation!  ) of aspects of the Joker. I guess he more or less inhabited the guy without having to be told what to do.

My point, sounds like for you it really doesn't have much to do with Heath or The Joker per se, just the overall level of violence/darkness... 

Well, yes and no. If I were to see "Hostel", I'd feel absolutely awful, defiled, and nauseous because of the content. But if Heath had had a role in the film, it'd be even worse, because I probably wouldn't be able to reconcile my admiration for him with the horror I felt at his role and the film in general - how could I ever respect and admire someone who took that kind of role in that kind of torture-porn-for-entertainment film? Now I know that whatever TDK is, it sure isn't "Hostel", thank goodness - I'm just trying to make as clear a point as I may.

But I will say that in addition to worrying TDK is too gruesome in general, part of my worry over TDK is that the Joker will be the kind of sadistic, evil, psychopath character that gives me the big-time creeps..... and even more efficiently so by means of Heath's acting genius.... and then I'll really be torn and ambivalent about Heath and why on earth he of all people had to do such a role!

But OK; now I'll wait till I hear the verdict about the violence and the (general) opinion and comments here, and then I'll make up my mind about what to expect if/when I see it. Of course I do fully plan to see it.... Every review I've read has been thrilled and overjoyed bordering on extatic, so the fillm can't possibly be *that* hard to stomach... If it's on level with the Bourne films I'll be fine.

Thank you so much Marie for sharing that link. I absolutely loved the article. I have to admit I was more than a bit teary eyed towards the end. The tears were flowing ... again.    So much to miss indeed.


I'm partial to collectives in general, and I loved the idea of the art collective The Masses from the first time I heard about it. Apart from Heath, the article was very informative about The Masses. I saved the whole thing; text and all of the pictures.

Thanks from me too.It had me in tears again though particularly the sentence, "before there was a supernatural ingredient that made it something I'd  never seen before"

How that sentence made my heart ache. It seems that everyone who came in contact with Heath felt touched by someone/something special. There are not many people that can do that. Of course there are always eulogies when people pass, but with Heath there is something extra in what people write.
That makes it even more bitter sweet.I love reading all the praise about him but then the loss of such talent makes it so hard.

I love finding out that the core group of them - Heath included - had known each other since Heath was 17, and that they had helped out on each other's projects all along.

Well, the E! thing is on now, and so far, it's pretty good.  Lots of early stills and interviews I'd never seen before.  Of course, they're going chronologically. 

Damn, a lot of commercials.  And that annoying little "news" ticker tape across the bottom...

All in all, it was pretty respectfully done, especially compared to some of E!'s usual sensational nonsense. 

Most of the talking heads were co-stars, directors and such.  It was edited so that Heath mostly spoke for himself.
