Because we often say "WHOOOO HOOO" when they do it...

"WHOOO HOOO! I think little Johnny just did something in his diaper! WHOOOO!!!! "

A whoo hoo!

Y'all have strange ways of amusing yourselves......    ::)

"Im Märzen der Bauer die Rösslein einspannt..."

"In March the farmer harnesses the little horse..."

( I admit it -- I cheated.....   Had to look "Rösslein" up. Found it in an online facsimile of an old dictionary)

Little horses, plural. But I'm impressed. Did you learn German at school?

Meanwhile, it started snowing again *sigh*
But chatting and having fun with my Brokie buds makes it bearable.  :-*

Yes, I did. But sad to say, I hardly ever use it, so I'm way out of practice.

That's what Brokie friends are for!!!   :-*

I'll stick my fan outside and blow some of our "warm" air your way! :-*

No I won't. That would look ridiculous. But I WILL wish you much warmer weather soon!

Spring is just around the corner Chrissi! For all of us!

Hopefully!

but it's still bad to have snow on this date. I got up this morning and everything is white outside - I lost count of how often this happened this winter. :P

but Chrissi....snow is so purdy!

No no no! That would be a poo poo, or a foo foo, or a whoo hoo!

Now see, we always called passing gas a "foo foo".

I looked it up, too, in my old copy of Langenscheidt's German-English/English German dictionary.

But what does it mean? To start the spring plowing? Or is it a poetic way of saying something else?  ???

I also have an old Langenscheidt from my school days! I didn't know they are also used "on the other side". :)
That's so cool 8).

Yup, the farmer starts the spring plowing. No hidden meaning. The song goes on with details of what he, the wife and the maidservants are doing in spring, and concludes with an outlook to harvest time and the next winter.

It is a poetic respectively antiquated choice of words though. Märzen instead of März, and Ross/Rösslein instead of Pferd.

You Easterners and your fancy talk! ;)

In my neck of the woods a "foo foo" is a "poo poo" and passing gas is simply a "fart".

Or if you did it as you quickly passed by someone (or a group of people) it is called "crop dusting".
