A surprize for me at home!
« Reply #40 on: June 01, 2006, 11:45:30 am »
As I had shown earlier, I live in the Capital of Connecticut.   I can see the tall buildings from my house as they are only 2 miles away.   Yet my house is in the classic suburban residential neighborhood.   Cute little ranches and Capes.    I am fortunate that my property backs up to a large wooded parcel.     Some mornings I find wild Turkeys in my backyard.

Late this morning as I was returning from the Supermarket I spotted a Deer in my Yard!      I grabbed my digital camera and snapped a pic of her.     I walked half way across my yard snapped a few pics, then crouched down and held my hand out.   She walked over to me and stopped 20 feet away when she realized I had no food!   LOL

I love it when I experience moments like this in the city.     Hartford is such a diverse city.    We have suburban neighborhoods,   old victorian ones,  big city office towers and blighted urban gang land.     Today I had a deer in my yard, yet last week 16 people were shot in gang/drug related violence 4 miles from my house.      Needless to say, I don't ever cross those over to that side of the tracks!

Argh!!!  Such gorgeous places you guys live!!!!!

I want homes in each place!

I'd live happily on Sheyne's porch!

Pics of Dallas, Texas... :P  boring.  Try 100 square miles of concrete and glass and not particularly pretty glass and concrete.

You've all seen pics of JFK getting assasinated in Dealy Plaza - that's downtown Dallas, near a gentrified area called the West End, known for tourist shopping - all 3 blocks of it.

If you guys have seen the movie 'Robocop' it was filmed in Dallas, less savory areas.

I'll look around for pics, but my part of Texas is pretty much mixed prairie, meaning flat and nondescript.

I too live in Dallas Delluvia.  Here are some pics that I'm proud to share; Looks like I'll have to post them a couple at a time.

More Dallas
Also, there are so many different topographies in North TX.  Go west of Ft. Worth and you are in arid, semi-desert, go east to Tyler and you're in Piney Woods, and Big Thicket with wild Dogwoods and Azaleas, southeast to Athens, in Hill Country ranches with Longhorns.

The view from my deck, Kapiti Island in the centre (four old chemical pictures stitched together - see my next message for a digital update)
Sometimes you can see Mt Taranaki to the left and/or Ruapehu to the right, both 250 km away. (only Ruapehu, and hard to find, in this one).
Ruapehu is an active volcano.
Taranaki is Fuji-like (it played as Fuji in The Last Samurai)
