Well - "Shiloh" if pronounced Shyloh.. is okay I guess.. sounds a bit like 'shy' and 'low', but what do I care. Better than "Suri" (TomKat kid for those not in the know..) - sounds like 'mouse' in French.. (and means a lot of strange stuff in different languages, I once read).

"Nouvel" on the other hand I don't understand.. Is it a gender-unspecific thing or what? If their baby is a girl, it should be "Nouvelle"..  ???  ??? But I really don't care...  ;D

Also, I know now why Gwyneth Paltrow called her daughter "Apple"! It's one of the codes in "The Da Vinci Code"! But I still don't care, really..  ::)

A friend here said he read an article this morning that claimed it means "the next Messiah."  Don't know if that's pure tabloid crapola (is that redundant) or it's actually true.  Nouvel = new or upcoming, Shiloh = Messiah.

Jeez.  And I thought the evangelicals around here were arrogant...

"Dag burn it!  Brad's gone totally Hollywood.  Next thing ye know, he'll be naming his kid Apple."

Heh, I heard Gwenyth Paltrow named her kids 'Moses' and 'Apple' because they were 'biblical'.

(apple = garden of eden/forbidden fruit  ::)  sorry, Gwennie, that's not the first thing that pops to mind when people hear someone's name is 'apple'.  What's wrong with Eve or Eden?).

Though, a relative who goes to Catholic School was vehement and declared flatly that the word 'apple' is no where in the Genesis story at all.  It's described as a 'fruit'.  Guess Gwennie didn't want to name her daughter 'Fruit'.

You know, Barbara is one of those names *no one* names their girls anymore.  Leslie, too.  I hear of a Victoria here and there, though.  And David, Jeffrey (or Geoffrey) and Christopher are still happenin'.  But unless you have a real penchant for naming your daughter after a relative, I don't see Barbara happenin' again for a long time.  If ever.  At least not in this country.  Oh, and by the way, that truly *is* Hebrew, meaning "foreign" or "strange."  Ain't DAT the truth?  ;)

Too true! A colleague of mine had her baby boy yesterday and they called him David! Father is Spanish, mother Belgian. Another colleague had a girl on Monday and she's called Serena. I like it!

Kelda, I agree! I like 'odd' names too. But there are limits!  ::) I like your nieces and sisters name! And yours!

Just read today that Nouvel is supposedly the name of a French architect Pitt admires.
