I need a cowboy hat expert
« on: June 03, 2006, 07:43:45 am »
I need details on the hat the Ennis wore up on Brokeback. I know from the story that Jack's was a black Reistol, but what about Ennis's? What is the proper description of the color? Is it a resistol too, or some other brand?

Thanks in advance,
Leslie

The Ann Proulx book doesn't specify Leslie?

I recall it mentions the Resistol brand.

Darn it.  I wish I hadn't tossed my book in the rubbish in that fit of post-BBM depression!    LOL.

I don't know if this will help, but I've found that Stetson, Resistol, Bailey, Charlie 1, Horse, Miller, and Atwood are big cowboy hat Brands.

If you want to see the styles, check WesternHats.com.
Love.  You have a problem with it?

No written source that I know of specifies the make of Ennis's hat. From what I can see of it in the stills that I have readily to hand, from the shape of the crown, I suspect it might have been a Stetson. But I'm partial, since Stetsons were manufactured in Philadelphia.  ;D

Other than that, I'm afraid the best I can do is suggest looking at hats on the Shepler's web site:
