Ennis thinking:

Even when he's fat and mad, Jack's still the prettiest man I know.

Jack thinking: Wonder if Ennis is comin' the tent, didn't seem ta mind much that I came up ta see 'm on the mountain, just sat up there right next ta me mostly till it was time ta come back ta camp 'n make ourselves supper. Didn't say hardly anything, stayed real close though. Still out there, looks kinda scared, 's alright Ennis it'll be ok, just us, me and you, don't need ta be afraid

Jack thinking:

Damn! This just didn't go the way I figured it. Gonna be just as lonely with Ennis up with the sheep an I'm down here. Wanted we should be both sleepin' down here at camp.

" S'alright, s'alright........shhhhh..... damn you Ennis....go ahead and bawl, s'alright....ain't lettin' ya go, hang on to me tight..... stay in my arms as long as ya want....ain't leaving till your ready, it's ok, I ain't going nowhere....shhhh.....s'alright........nobody here but us bud...."

JPWagoneer, bless you for coming up with this. I have been slowly digesting this entire wonderful thread and this one (it goes with a shot from the end of the lake fight scene) just stops me in my tracks every time. I think that scene is miraculous, but since I first saw it I had a need - it actually feels like a need, not a wish - to have Jack go that little bit further in his comforting of Ennis. Ennis is coming apart at the seams. He is having the emotional meltdown of his life, percipitated by his feelings for Jack, and the only way he can move from this crisis point/ moment of reckoning is if Jack helps him through it. Your lines ring true and make me just that little bit surer of Jack's absolute support and love... this is beautiful, really beautiful.
