The following is from an interview with Terry Gilliam published in Movieline on December 23:

One last thing I wanted to ask you: There was that Modest Mouse video that Heath directed that was completed posthumously. I had read that you were involved initially, can you tell me how?
He was working on it with a guy named Daniel Auber, who was the storyboard artist on the script. Heath was in London for the Joker, so Daniel came over to work and I gave them the boardroom to my effects company. They were busy working there and I was throwing my two cents in every so often. Actually, if you look at the sun in that video, I am the sun. [Laughs] So they were working in the boardroom and that was the day that I was doing some special effects shows for the guys, and that’s when Heath slipped me that note asking, “Can I play Tommy in Parnassus?” It was magical.

Has anyone any further information on this video? Can it be found anywhere?

Modest Mouse to Release Music Video Directed by Heath Ledger

Modest Mouse is releasing a music video directed by the late Heath Ledger.

Modest Mouse will be releasing their music video directed by the late Heath Ledger, before he died in January of last year, Spin.com reports. The Oscar winning Dark Knight actor directed the band’s animated video for “King Rat,” a bonus track off their 2007 album, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank.

"Heath and I have a mutual friend and when we were in Australia, my fiancée and some of us in the band went out on a boat with him and his family and friends and talked about the idea," Modest Mouse front man Isaac Brock told VH1. "The idea sort of dropped, but then he just sent me an email saying that he wanted to do it."

Modest Mouse will be performing on Late Show with David Letterman on March 18. They will be finishing the final leg of their U.S. tour this weekend, Spin.com reports.

The much-awaited Modest Mouse video for "King Rat" directed by Heath Ledger has been released today. And the video is an incredible look at what would happen if whales hunted humans.

All the proceeds from the iTunes downloads in the first month of release will go to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, which works towards protecting and conserving marine life.  http://www.seashepherd.org/

Directed by Ledger, with Daniel Auber and Norris Houk in charge of the animation, the video is a "visual plea against the legal commercial whale hunts taking place off the coast of Australia," according to the press release.

Unfortunately, Ledger died before he could ever see the finished product.

The King Rat video was quite disturbing (not disturbing in relation to Heath, but in general). I'm sure you'll be able to find it on youtube.

Thanks, Penthesilea, for tracking down a copy of this video. It is certainly quite effective as a "protest" piece. Unfortunately, I could only make out a word or two of the commentary, so don't know what points were being made there. And yes, the sun could be Terry Gilliam.
