“What?” Jack smiled. “You look handsome.” He stood up, his hands stuffed into the pockets of his jeans.

Ennis felt his cheeks warming, embarrassed and pleased by Jack’s compliment. “Thanks,” he said, fighting back the urge to look at the floor. “But you’ve seen me in a suit before.”

“I know. Thought you looked good then, too.” Jack managed to wink and smirk at the same time. “Even though I wanted to kick your ass.” He paused, grabbing his leather jacket from the chair. “Are you sure it’s okay if I go with you?”

He's now 40. looks very good. Turned out even better: was a 911 hero, an iraq war hero, and decorated for bravery by NYPD several times. Happily married. Her friends are jealous because he's so good at being a husband.
