I love Jack's distinctly dirty knees in the flashback scene.
 ;)
Agreed Amanda!  ;D

I love Jack because he was just so hopeful and dreamy and incredibly hot!  ;)

I love the hopeful look on his face when he asks Aguirre: "Ennis del Mar ain't been around, has he?"...
Like he was holding his breathe, thinking of how badly he would like to see Ennis again.
Then Aguirre shot his plane right out of the sky with his 'rose-stemming' comment.. ::)

I love Jack for the jaunty way he wears that burgundy-colored scarf around his neck just prior to Ennis's return from the bear incident.  Jack is a very stylish cowboy indeed!

I love the way Jack is genuinely interested in everything about Ennis' life.

I love when Jack stands up to his father in law.

I love the way Jack is so tender with Ennis in the second tent scene.

I love the way Jack is so hopeful...every time.

-when they part the first time 'think you'll come back next summer'
-when he goes next summer and asks for Ennis
-in the motel room, after the first reunion, 'what are we gonna do?'
-at the campsite, 'it could always be like this'
-after the divorce 'here I am'
-their last time together. 'we should go to Mexico'

Just every time, so hopeful, just trying so hard to make it happen.  Imagine all the hours he spent thinking of what their life could be like. Imagine him getting that card about the divorce and driving 14 hours! to be rejected...again.  Oh, it's just so sad. But every time he comes back with those eyes, and that hope in his heart.

I love Jack for the burst of energy he brings to almost every scene he's in.  I love his impatience ~ somewhat related to energy.

I love when Jack says that Bobby's teacher doesn't like him because he "complains too much"- it shows he cares, unlike Lureen who won't even call for a tutor.

I love Jack's clumsiness because it's actually endearing... he's graceful when he doesn't know it.

I love Jack's bitching - "That pup tent smells like cat piss or worse," "Ya know, I'm commutin' 4 hours a day...," "Ya won't get much sleep, I can tell ya that," "Aguirre got all over my case like I was s'posed to control the weather," "Beats workin' for my old man - can't please my old man no way," "Why powder your nose just to go home and go to bed?"  "No more beans!"

As you guys mentioned, I love it all the more when he says "I complain too much" because it's just about the essence of him (in not such a negative way, of course), and he sums it up himself in that one little phrase.
No more beans!

I love watching Jack's face in the scene right before he tells Ennis that's the most Ennis has spoken in two weeks- you can tell he's just enjoying listening to Ennis talk, listening to his voice.

I love how Jack reminds all the idealists and dreamers in the world that it is OK to dream and have ideals. I love him because he makes whining and complaining a positive trait! I love how he combines masculinity with tenderness. I love how he never stops loving.
