What's that about a dingo eating a baby?
It's a bit of a story.
In 1980, Alice Lynne "Lindy" Chamberlain and her husband Michael Chamberlain were camping in Uluru, Australia, with their two month old baby. On August 17th, the distraught parents reported that a wild dingo went into their tent and had taken the baby.
Investigations were done, and prosecutors felt that Lindy had killed the baby, and charged her with murder. Lindy was convicted in 1982, and sentenced to life imprisonment.
In 1986, just by chance, the baby's jacket was discovered in a lair of dingoes. Lindy was pardoned and released from prison.
After the amount of publicity the case received, numerous references to dingoes "got" my baby or "ate your baby" started to appear.
The gif I posted was an episode of Seinfeld. In that episode, Jerry and Elaine (the woman in the gif) are stranded at a dinner party. Elaine is stuck sitting by a woman who is asking everyone where her fiance is.
"Ellen, have you seen my fiance?" "Oh, he's upstairs" "Are you going upstairs? Can you tell my fiance I'm looking for him? (turns to Elaine) I have lost my fiance! The poor baby!"
(Elaine responds in an Australian accent) "Maybe the dingo ate your baby!"
