The spanagram is "Survivor" and all the words pertain to the TV show survivor.  The hint was "fire represents your life".   In the TV show there are lit torches, one for each contestant.
 The host says to them "In this game, fire represents your life. When your fire's gone, so are you."   So when each of them is voted off the island, their torch is extinguished.

I don't watch this show, so I had to use a bunch of hints to get it.
