Sonja has heard from Berit's husband Esbjorn that she died yesterday, from complications of bile duct cancer. Apparently she was working full time just three months ago.

She certainly was a true-blue Brokie, and greatly loved life and especially her family.

Esbj?rn told med that the cancer was diagnosed only two months ago.

It was inoperable, but she received treatment and they were hoping she'd get more time.

Esbj?rn has access to her FB page, so if you want to you can write a message for him and their children there.

Oh no! This is a major shock. I'm glad Esbjorn let us know. She was just posting on Facebook recently. I met them in Arizona. Please let us know how we could honor her. She has children too, doesn't she?

Yes, she was very devoted to her children, Hanna and Gustav.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I didn't get to meet Berit, though her name is certainly familiar. Deepest condolences to her family and to all the Brokies who knew her.

Berit checking the internet in my dining room. This was in 2011, when Brokies met in Bochum to hear the short story read out loud in a planetarium, above us the same night sky as Ennis and Jack saw it in summer 1963. A couple of Brokies stayed a my place before the Bochum meet, and Lynne stayed for a few days after the Bochum meet.

Losing our dear Berit is still shocking. It was so sudden, just a few days prior she was posting on facebook.
Monika and I are planning a trip up north in June and our starting and end point will be Berit's home town on northern Sweden. I had talked to my hubby about meeting up with Berit just a day or two before the sad news.

Hello everyone, it has been a while. I hope everyone is doing all right.

I wanted to let you know that Berit?s funeral will be on August 3rd in a chuch close to where she lived in northern Sweden.

I have ordered a bouquet of flowers with blue irises to be delivered. I also included a blue ribbon with the text ""We will never quit you" - from your Brokie friends all over the world."

I hope this feels OK for everyone, and I hope you can all feel included in this last greeting to our dear friend, which is the intention.

I remember seeing her and her husband at the 10th anniversary celebration in Tucson. Amazing traveler and woman.
