Lucise -

Thanks much.  My son was equally awed.  That sequence is virtually worth the cost of admission!

Hey Barb - Too bad we live so far apart - we'd make great movie buddies!  And yes, Jack IS (as is Ennis) a separate being.  I can't believe that they can both still bring tears to my eyes.

Oh well, I will probably see it today.  I always think Bond movies are incredibly formulistic, but there's not alot out there I wanta see today.

that's the thing about Casino Royale. It broke away from those formulas. They've done away with the gadgets, the "Bond Girls" with sexual names, the sexual innuendos. Instead, they've focused on character development, story and good writing. I really enjoyed the writing. The interchange between Bond and M in M's house, and the verbal sparring between Bond and Vesper on the train were just as entertaining as the action sequences, imo.

Especially #3 - I found the relationship tacked on and unnecessary, and though I understood the intention of including it, I thought it did nothing to move the narrative forward and it fact probably the only flaw in an otherwise perfect movie.

I half agree with you. You're right, they didn't exactly made it as convincing as they could, but I do think it is very much part of his character development as well as the plot. But yeah, that last half hour sort of dragged on a bit, didn't it?

and yeah, D Craig is very sexy. mm, those shoulders.

Couldn't agree with you more, Nipith, on all counts.  Yes, it's the last half hour that felt tacked-on.  But I also thoroughly enjoyed the verbal sparring between James and Vesper on the train.

Cheers to character development!  What a concept!  :)

I'm inclined to go and see it just because the people who want us to boycott it seem to be such idiots.

And, well...

Yes, please advise. I didn't see anything controversial about the film or why anyone would boycott it.  ???

The film did have more depth to it then any James Bond movie I've seen recently.  B/W in a Bond movie! They like to use Venice in Bond movies now don't they.  Guess it's popular with the Britts or something.

D. Craig is the best looking Bond I've seen. Great body.  He must have really gotten pumped up for this film. And yes, I noticed no new gadgets.

As I recall, die-hard fans of Bond didn't think Daniel Craig fit the Bond 'mold' & intended to boycott any Bond film w/ him in it.

The sparing on the train was indeed great - but I failed to see where the relationship expanded to the point that Bond would do as he did (hmmmmm, how to get your point across without stating your point...)  Just trying to avoid spoiling anything.

I agree, LJ.  I didn't get that at all, either.

And I agree also that those people are idiots.  Especially considering that pretty much all I've heard and read on the subject says that this Bond is the truest of all to Ian Fleming's books.  That he was almost a rogue vigilante and that there was a certain meanness to him.  I don't know how Fleming described him physically, but I don't think it matters so much as the characterization.

In short (too late) this is the first and only Bond I'm interested in seeing more of.  For what that's worth, he can't suck too badly.

I saw Casino Royale last night, man what a ride! That story had so many twists and turns that when I was thinking about it later some of the early characters seemed like they were in another movie.

Daniel Craig is hot, and I think he will go on to be one of the best James Bonds ever. I may go back and see it again.
