Ennis & Alma
« on: December 21, 2006, 01:15:40 pm »
Why did Ennis lie to Alma when she asks how he knows Jack?

She asks if they cowboyed together (which they did, right) but Ennis says no, they were fishing buddies. Why would he lie about that?

I saw you were sick and tired of my wrong turns.
If you only knew the way I feel,
I'd really love to tell you,
But I could never seem to say
The things I needed to.
On a day like today
No other words would do.

Hiya-

He lied because he hadn't told Alma about the fact that he was on that mountain with Jack, not alone. He never told her that he was there with Jack. If he had said "we herded sheep together on BBM in '63" then that would have set off alarm bells with Alma. Second, he might have thought of this excuse so he would have an excuse if he would want to go up the mountains with Jack again (real quick thinking of him).

Does this make sense?
