Scat mats!!!

It's much funnier when you have cats.     I wish I had a digital camera.  It was hysterical.

My cats are going on 4 years of age. They've lived here since they were 4 months old.  About 3 months ago they found a spot on the carpet that they hadn't noticed before.

Now they won't stop pissing there.  I've tried everything except ripping up the carpet - since I live in an apartment - cleaning with those enzymatic cleaners, putting down plastic.  Nothing worked.

I put this thing down and after they both got zapped, they haven't approached the area since.    ;D

That's a hoot!

I wish you had a camera, too.  I'd love to see your cats' reactions.  ;D

The mat has wires running through it.  The idea is that when your cat steps on two wires at once, with more than one paw, it completes the circuit and gets zapped.  I'm not sure how that would work if the mat was strung up on the side of a couch (you can't fold the mat or the wires will get bent).

I guess if you put it on the floor near the couch and trained them that this thing was 'bad', then they might start avoiding that side of the couch, but of course, then they would probably just move to another part of the couch.  You'd have to keep after them.

Two things worked for me on my cat clawing the carpet problem.  Double-sided sticky tape and keeping their claws trimmed way down and luckily for me, they were both breeder raised, so they were raised on scratching posts and usually prefer the scratching posts anyway.
