“I’m used ta white, Jack,” he said shyly. “I ain’t ever slept on colored sheets.”

I think I actually said this once -- a million years ago

Next morning after their breakfast of scrambled eggs, and bacon.  They set out for the piece of ground Ms Proulx was trying to look over.  It was way up on the high side of the mountain.

"Well I guess we better head on out she said, would like to get there pretty quick.  Would like to look it over pretty good, before we head back down."

Janice, I'm so glad you're back to doing this!

Marl, are we going to have Jack Twist's ghost throwing a monkey wrench in things?

. . .  “Where’d I find somebody?  Pete’s Restaurant?  Alma and Monroe’s grocery?”  He took a puff, flicked the ash out the window .  “Never no good at pillow talk anyway.”
     She sighed.  “Nor was I.”
“How many times you say you was married?”
     “Too many.”

Oh, Ennis.... always underestimating yourself.  I'm sensing a connection here, Clyde.  Might learn something from each other, huh?  (And sometimes not having a clue can lead you to really interesting places...)   :)

Thanks,
Marie

Happy Saturday, drabblers.  Why don't we try:

  • clear
  • bottom of the barrel
  • boring/bored

Have fun!

I wrote this when Bettermost was down, so it doesn't have anything to do with the prompts. Just for fun...

Saturday July 28, 2007
Lazy L Farm, Quanah, TX

“Dammit!” said Jack, staring at the computer screen.

“What are ya swearin about?” asked Ennis, looking over his shoulder.

“Bettermost is down. I wanted to log on and post on the Harry Potter thread and I can’t get in.”

“I thought Bettermost was bout Brokeback Mountain?” Ennis looked perplexed.

“It is…but there are other discussions, too. Shit!” he said, punching at the F5 key.

“Don’t have a conniption fit, I’m sure it’ll be back in no time.”

Jack shook his head dubiously. “I don’t know. Phillip’s in Alberta, he might not realize it’s down…or he might not be able ta do anythin about it even if he does know.”

“Who’s Phillip?”

“The guy who owns Bettermost.”

“What’s he doin in Alberta?”

“Lookin at the places where they made the movie.”

Ennis shook his head. “Ya know, there are some people who got way too much time on their hands.”

“Oh no, no…this is his first vacation in like 20 years or somethin. And he was afraid somethin like this would happen…”

“Well, nothing ya can do bout it…go find somethin else ta look at.”

“Like what?”

“I dunno…there must be another Harry Potter board ya can post on.”

Jack looked at Ennis, frank admiration in his eyes. “Sometimes you are a fuckin genius. Let’s see, harrypotter.com….”

I see we didn't have any drabbles yesterday so I am going to repeat Marie's prompts:

  • clear
  • bottom of the barrel
  • boring/bored

Have fun!

Thanks Clyde, I was out of town and away from the keyboard for a week.  Its good to be back.  I hope to add another chapter this weekend.
Great minds Leslie.   Your Jack and Ennis conversation sounds like the one I was having with myself.  Tee hee.  I even called Lynne to be sure they knew about it.   :)

     Beautiful mind

Somewhere in Wyoming

“Ya know, Jack, I been meaning ta ask ya…”

“Ask me what, En?” said Jack, poking at the campfire with a stick.

“The last postcard ya sent me…that was one strange picture.”

Jack looked him, puzzled. “Really? What was it? I figured some mountain scene or something, like I usually send.”

“No, it was a picture a two lobsters. One was green and one was red and it said, ‘Fresh from the ocean, fresh from the pot.’”

I have that postcard, I have right here on my desk!  :D

I'm back to our drabblefest. I'm trying to catch up with the drabbles written while I was away and am looking forward to participate again, be it with writing or reading and commenting.

Cream of the Crop

"Shit." Jack poked at the pot with disgust. "Burnt the damn beans again.  Fuckin things are bad enough when they ain't burnt."

Ennis shrugged.  "Don't mind burnt beans – here, have the ones on top."

Jack stared for a moment.  "Naw, Ennis – you don't have to…"

"Said I don't mind – kinda like 'em burnt."  The words were low, insistent.

"Uh…. thanks, bud."  Jack smiled as Ennis gave the whisper of a nod in acknowledgment.  He might be scraping the bottom of the barrel with the beans, but it was clear he was sharing them with the cream of the crop.
