I went over on the words...please forgive me!

Lazy L Farm
Quanah, TX
November 1976

Jack slit the envelope open with a knife. He pulled out the sheaf of papers, then peeled the plastic card off, the adhesive sticky on the back. “There ya go, cowboy,” he said, handing the card to Ennis. “Yer very own MasterCharge.”

Ennis ran his fingers over the embossed letters and numbers on the card, looking at the overlapping circles of orange and yellow emblazoned on the front. “I ain’t ever had a credit card before,” he said softly.

“I kinda figgered that. Ya didn’t have a bank account before ya came here either.”

“Not sure I need a credit card,” said Ennis, holding it at arm’s length as if it was a dangerous insect. “What’s wrong with payin’ cash?”

“Nothin’s wrong with payin’ cash, and ya still can. But sometimes, y’know, if ya don’t have enough money in yer wallet or yer payin’ for a hotel, it’s nice ta have a credit card. In fact, ya hafta have one to rent a car.”

“And why would I be needin’ ta rent a car? We got two perfectly good trucks out there.”

“One perfectly good truck. Yers is a bit of a rust bucket, if I ya ask me…”

“Don’t you go dissin’ my truck…”

“Just sayin’. Now, sign the card on the back and put it in yer wallet.”

Ennis looked at the card suspiciously, even as he signed his name and put it away. “Don’t want ta go inta debt.”

“Ennis!” said Jack, exasperated. “The card ain’t gonna put ya in debt. Usin’ it irresponsibly will…and since it don’t sound like yer gonna be usin’ it, I guess you ain’t gonna go in debt now, are ya?”

“If I ain’t gonna use it, then why do I need it?”

“Because ya might need ta rent a car.”

“And why would I need ta rent a car?”

“”Cause yer truck might break down.”

“You won’t give me a ride?”

“Only if ya ask nice.”

“Pretty please?” said Ennis, with a wink.

Jack smiled, then pulled Ennis close, grabbing his belt loops. “Ya know I can never say no to you, cowboy,” he said, leaning in for a kiss. “Sure, I’ll give ya a ride.”

Leslie I read all the drabbles on here and they are all very good. You know I also love your stories, too, but I,m sorry, I have to complain about your use of that C word. I HATE it. Totally unnnecessary IMO. When I,m moderating in chat, if anyone says that word they get ejected. Its the most awful word in the English language. It shouldnt be in the dictionary.  >:( >:(

Janice, you're so right about this thread - even the heart-wrenching drablbles give us joy!

I'l just bet he will!!! ;D ;D ;D

I am new at all this, well, here goes.

A Trip

June 1976
.    .   .

Ennis's and Jack's eyes met.  Should they go or should they stay?.  A big blond guy touched Ennis’s shoulder, “Your acting like a fish out of water” he said.

Ennis didn’t say anything. But Jack heard the remark, and thought, ‘I hope I ain’t.”

  The Bees Gees have now taken residence in my brain - and they won't leave!!!  Terrific, Marlene!

Thanks!

Ennis comes in the door, drops his work hat on the cabinet,,next
to the Glen Fiddich scotch..He looks around with a hopeful expression.
He knows that it is a useless effort.  Ellery'n not due home for a couple
of hours yet..  He glances at the stack of mail on the floor, next to the
front door..Man I just dont understand how two men can have so much
junk mail.  I used to just get this much in a month...now we get this
every day...
Mostly just crap, nobody will ever use, mostly for Ellery.  But Ennis
spies an envelope that looks important with his own name in the little
window..Mr Ennis Del Mar, you have been accepted for a pre-approved
credit card..no credit check needed...Ennis just couldn't wrap his
mind around that idea...He had never even had a bank account.  Not
before Wes gave him that bonus.  After the horses had sold.. He wasn't
sure quite how he felt about that.  Ennis glances as Ellery enters.
"Hello sweetheart," Ellery exclaimed as he swept Ennis into his
arms leaning in for a kiss.  "Whatcha got there?"  "It's a pre-approved
credit card application."  "Well ill be!"  Ellery exclaimed as he smiled into
the full body press.  "You're an official, american card carryin debtor now,
how does it feel?"  "Not sure I like it really, what do i need this thing for?"
"Don't suppose you do, after all these years."  "But they do come
in handy some times sweetheart.." "Case you have some trouble and
don't have cash on you right then."  "Well i'll have to see, kinda feel
like a fish outa water with some o these new fangled ideas."  "I'm
getting downright civilized since i come here."
"Well," Ellery says as he comes in for another kiss, turning towards
Ennis for anothe slippery full mouthed suggestive kiss..  "I hope you
ain't gettin too civilized for a little coyote howlin, since i got off
early to get here for some more of that other new fangled idea you got since
ya got here."  "Naw, im fine with that new idea, just fine, boy."  He
grabs Ellery's belt loops and pulls him in for another bite on his lower neck,
sayin, "did you stop at the store on the way home?"
"No, what for?"  "I told ya we needed more fruit, for that salad, and some
more bananas for cereal in the mornins."
"Nope sorry, i forgot,,,"  "We can go in later, after."  "Aright."
"We can pick up some more a them doughboys, we're outta them
too."

Leslie and Marie,

Thank You for your kind words to my drabble.  Wow, I haven't written since college, but I used to love to write, and now I am starting to get inspired to do it again.

This a great way to start :)

Thanks so much again :) :) :)

Marleen

(Also have to start catching up on my reading too ;D)

Okay, today's prompts...

  • airplane
  • passport
  • parking ticket

I need to make a list to make sure we don't start repeating things, but I think these are all new....
