Hi, anyone remember the song by Linda Rhonstaad and the Stone Ponies......Different Drum

Have a listen.....

You and I, travel to the beat of a different drum
Oh cant you tell by the way I run,
Everytime you make eyes at me.

You cry and always say it could work out
But honey child, Ive got my doubts,
you cant see the forest for the trees.

Oh dont get me wrong, its not that I'm knockin it,
Its just that i am not in the market for a boy who wants to love, only me
Yes and I aint sayin you aint pretty, I am saying, I' m not ready
For any person. place or thing, to try and pull the reins in on me

So goodbye, i beleive and i see no sense
In this crying and grieving,
We'll  both live a lot longer
If you live without me

Being happy doesn't mean everything is perfect.

It means you've decided to see beyond the imperfection

Shadows-Gordon Lightfoot
This song has been with me ever since the day I was born, my parents are Gordon Lightfoot fans. It also applies beautifully to Jack and Ennis!

Shadows - Gordon Lightfoot
Won't you reach out love and touch me,
let me hold you for awhile?
I been all around the world,
oh how I long to see you smile.
There's a shadow on the moon
and the waters here below
do not shine the way they should,
and I love you just in case you didn't know.
Let it go.
Let it happen like it happened once before.
It's a wicked wind and it chills me to the bone,
and if you do not believe me
come and gaze upon the shadow at your door.
Won't you lie down by me baby,
run your fingers through my hands?
I been all around the town
and still I do not understand.
Is it me or is it you?
Or the shadow of a dream?
Is it wrong to be in love?
Could it be the finest love I've ever seen?
Set it free.
Let it happen like it happened once before.
It's a wicked wind and it chills me to the bone,
and if you do not believe me
come and gaze upon the shadow at your door.
Please kiss me gently darlin'
where that river runs away
from the mountains in the springtime
on a blue and windy day.
Where there's beauty all around
as the shades of night grow deep.
When the morning stars grow dim
they will find us in the shadows fast asleep.
Let it go.
Let it happen like it happened once before.
It's a wicked wind and it chills me to the bone,
and if you do not believe me
come and gaze upon the shadow at your door.

And another one, Landslide

I took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
till the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky
What is love
Can the child within my heart rise above
Can I sail thru the changing ocean tides
Can I handle the seasons of my life

Well, Ive been afraid of changing
cause Ive built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older
Im getting older too

Oh, take my love, take it down
Climb a mountain and turn around
If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide will bring it down

If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well maybe the landslide will bring it down

I have soooooo many, but I will only add ONE more. Lyrics by Jane Siberry, I love the KD Lang version.

Maybe it was to learn how to love
Maybe it was to learn how to leave
Maybe it was for the games we played
Maybe it was to learn how to choose
Maybe it was to learn how to lose
Maybe it was for the love we made

Love is everything they said it would be
Love made sweet and sad the same
But love forgot to make me too blind to see
You're chickening out aren't you?
You're bangin' on the beach like an old tin drum
I cant wait 'til you make
The whole kingdom come
So I'm leaving

Maybe it was to learn how to fight
Maybe it was for the lesson in pride
Maybe it was the cowboys' ways
Maybe it was to learn not to lie
Maybe it was to learn how to cry
Maybe it was for the love we made

Love is everything they said it would be
Love did not hold back the reins
But love forgot to make me too blind to see
You're chickening out aren't you?
You're bangin' on the beach like an old tin drum
I cant wait 'til you make
The whole kingdom come
So I'm leaving

First he turns to you
Then he turns to her
So you try to hurt him back
But it breaks your body down
So you try to love bigger
Better still
But it's too late

So take a lesson from the strangeness you feel
And know you'll never be the same
And find it in your heart to kneel down and say
I gave my love didn't I?
And I gave it big...sometimes
And I gave it in my own sweet time
I'm just leaving

Love is everything...

Isn't that beautiful? Sigh... :'(

:'( It sure is Mel. I'll have to hunt down the KD Lang version - she's one of my favourite singers. Do you know which album of hers it's on?
Will you stop playing with that radio of yours, I'm trying to get to sleep!

I have more... STOP ME!!!!!

Can't depend on love - Gordon Lightfoot

I spent most of my life outside in the drivin' rain
I was only trying to get by with some of life's amenities
Well nothin's free
I got more than I bargained for
Now it's plain to see
I can't depend on love to defend me
It took most of my time to do what never was done
I was only outside of an inside kind of love that now is gone

U2 - Original of the Species
I’ll give you everything you want
Except the thing that you want
You are the first one of your kind

And you feel like no-one before
You steal right under my door
And I kneel ‘cos I want you some more
I want the lot of what you got
And I want nothing that you’re not

Everywhere you go you shout it
You don’t have to be shy about it

Bruce Springsteen - Blood Brothers
We played king of the mountain out on the end
The world come chargin' up the hill, and we were women and men
Now there's so much that time, time and memory fade away
We got our own roads to ride and chances we gotta take
We stood side by side each one fightin' for the other
We said until we died we'd always be blood brothers

Without You (Sorry - couldn't find the lyricist's name)

No I can't forget this evening
Or your face as you were leaving
But I guess that's just the way
The story goes
You always smile but in your eyes
Your sorrow shows
Yes it shows
No I can't forget tomorrow
When I think of all my sorrow
When I had you there
But then I let you go
And now it's only fair
That I should let you know
What you should know

I can't live
If living is without you
I can't live
I can't give anymore
I can't live
If living is without you
I can't give
I can't give anymore
No more beans!

Oh, I love "Landslide"...it's probably my favorite Fleetwood Mac song. I had never thought of it in regard to BBM before, but now that you mention it, it's very evocatively appropriate. Thanks!

Another song, penned and performed by Stevie Nicks, which seems less apposite in connection to Brokeback but which nevertheless conveys some of the same wistful beauty in "Landslide", is "After the Glitter Fades". I don't have the lyrics on me right now, but one line is permanently embedded in my memory: "The loneliness of a one-night stand is hard to take"...that could sum up so much of Jack's experience right there.

I'm not sure about the lyricist but I know the original was by nilsson, and I think he wrote and sung it. But it was later covered by Mariah Carrey. But it does fit very well, it seems that great minds think alike Barb cause I was about to post this. ;D

Nilsson's version was a cover. It was written by Pete Ham from British band Badfinger, apparently as an apology after he had let his girlfriend down yet again by staying in to work when he'd promised to take her on a long overdue night out. She's still alive but he, alas, committed suicide  - unable to recover from the death of fellow band member and lifelong friend Tom Evans. Very sad...
