This is definitely an annoying and dangerous habit, Jack. Good that you brought it up.
If I'm not mistaken, some places are thinking of banning (or maybe have banned) cell phone talking while driving.
I can understand just giving a status report ("hey, I'm late, be there in half an hour") but not long chatty conversations.

In New Mexico you have to have a hands free attachment to talk and drive, if they catch you with a phone up to your ear while driving you get a ticket.

I actually have a rubber band in my car, and when I need to use the cell, I band it to my "TomTom" attachment, and use it on speakerphone.
