After my surgeries I got some drug store reading glasses, but then I asked my doctor for a prescription for progressive lenses, and I just wear the glasses all the time. I can drive without glasses. I have sunglasses that aren't prescription lenses; I wear them to drive. The drug store readers actually seem to be better for close work on my model trains than the prescription glasses.

Yes, that's exactly my situation except I don't wear sunglasses and I bought my progressive reading glasses online without a prescription. They're a little hard to find, though, and some sites want you to upload a prescription. So I may break down and get one. But most sites let you "try the glasses on" by using your computer camera to show your face with the glasses superimposed.

Hiya BetterMost friends!!!!

So, we had an earthquake this night (08/02)!

I didn't even know it was an earthquake.  Just as it happened, someone downstairs came home and slammed their door loudly, so I thought it was an angry tenant stomping into their place.  Turns out it was a 3.0 quake, with the epicenter about 11 miles away from my town.

So, what else has been going on with me?   I had my mid-year review, and everything went well.  Met with my new primary care physician, I like her, and we had a good meeting.  My tests came back good, and I have a follow-up with her schedule for December.

Speaking of doctors, I had a colonoscopy last week.  I was waaaaaaaaaaay past due, as I'm 56 and never had one.  I've always heard how horrible the prep is.  It wasn't so bad.  Yeah, not fun, but not as bad as others have said, so I guess I tolerated it well.   Results were also good.

Work has been going along smoothly, but it turns out (I can't recall if I spoke about this here before) my office is being shut down.  My position is not in danger, I'll just be 100% remote now.  I've already had that option, but I enjoy seeing coworkers, so I was going into the office twice a week.  THis does mean, however, that I need to work on getting paperwork sent out for shredding, or storage, and it has to be dealt with by the end of September, or October.

The heat waves we've had here in NJ have worked my nerves, and I am counting down the days to the Autumnal Equinox, 51 and counting!

I have a staycation planned for this month, and I'm thinking on getting the car serviced (regularly scheduled maintenance) and getting myself a new TV.   The one I have is still working fine, but not a newer model so I can't use it to stream or anything like that, so I'm thinking of getting a newer one that will let me use some streaming services.

How is everyone else??

Wow, what excitement! I'm glad I don't live in a place that has angry tenants sometimes! Well, I do have a tenant that lives upstairs but he is quiet as a mouse.

How am I doing? Aside from healing from the detached retina in March, I'm doing quite well. I'm really benefiting from living with a lunar calendar as my guide. We've just had a new moon so I'm initiating new projects and making progress on ongoing ones. I'll talk more about it over in my blog.

I've started doing new exercises in the morning to build the muscles in my legs. I have to be able to get down on the floor and get up off the floor to play with my grandchildren. Yardwork and walking take care of the rest of the fitness challenge.

Sorry to hear about your office closing. This seems to be happening a lot. Denver downtown is turning into a ghost town.

I'm glad it was just a small earthquake, Chuck.

This is the devastating result of an earthquake not far from here some years ago  :'(

Glad you came out OK from the earthquake, the colonoscopy and everything else, Chuck. And I'm sorry that you'll have to work remotely because you seem very social but I'm sure you'll find other ways to get together with people.

Hiya BetterMost friends!!!!

So, we had a second earthquake today (08/05)!

I felt the last one, but I didn't feel this one at all.  It was a 2.7 on the scale, the epicenter was in a town about 18 miles away from mine.

So, let me tell you about yesterday and today, and what happened.   ::) ::)

I didn't sleep well Sunday night, and got up early because I was working at the office.  I stayed at the office until about 2:15, and was back home by 3:00.  It was my late night, so I was on the laptop until 6:45, then had dinner, cleaned up around the apartment, and then about 10:00pm, checked my email.

To my surprised, I had 2 emails from DocuSign, and one from Bob's Furniture, with a survey on the customer service I received.  I thought this was a scam of some sort.  I opened one of the DocuSign emails, to see if I could get some sort of information without having to click on any links, which I refused to do.

For those who don't know what DocuSign is, it's a website that you can send documents through, that will allow them to be signed electronically.

There was a serial number in the DocuSign message, so I opened a new window and logged into the real DocuSign site, and searched on the serial number.  Up popped a receipt for approximately $1,100.00 in kitchen chairs.  The receipt had my name on it, my address, email and phone number, as well as my prior address (parents' home) with my name.

It appeared that I had been victim of identity theft, the only saving grace was the credit card listed (last four digits) was not mine.

It was now past 10:30pm, so there was nothing I could do at that point, other than check my accounts online, and was relieved to see there were no odd transactions.

I went to bed, and of course, slept poorly as this played on my mind all night.  I ended up getting out of bed at 4:30am, I couldn't lay there anymore, so I got up, shaved, showered, and did all the morning routine stuff.

I got to the office, and found out that Bob's Furniture didn't open until 10:00.  I was trying to think of what to do, and called my parents, as their address was on the receipt too.

Turns out that dad and mom were at that store yesterday, buying new kitchen chairs.  It was the same store I got my furniture from when I moved into the apartment, so the salesperson accidentally used my profile, but mom and dad's credit card, and used their address as the delivery address.

 ::) ::) ::)

half of me was relieved to find out that there was no identity theft, and half angry at the awful night's sleep due to worrying.

I wasn't worried about my credit, I received a letter about a year ago that TicketMaster had a data breech, and I used them to buy concert tickets, so for the past year I've had my credit frozen so no new accounts, loans, LoCs, or cards could be obtained in my name.

Glad you came out OK from the earthquake, the colonoscopy and everything else, Chuck. And I'm sorry that you'll have to work remotely because you seem very social but I'm sure you'll find other ways to get together with people.

Hello Katy and Jeff!  Regarding office, I'll get by.  It just means that I'll spend less on gas and save miles on the car.  There will still be teams meetings and such.  Yeah, not the same, but I won't be completely isolated.

What a scare, Chuck!

I'm very glad that your identity wasn't stolen, that must be a real nightmare for those affected.

How does the frozen thing work, will you ever be able to take a loan or get a new card again?

You can unfreeze at any time. I keep mine frozen, too. Once or twice I've forgotten and applied for new credit cards and been denied because they couldn't check my credit, so I had to unfreeze temporarily and apply again or something. But that's the worst that can happen from freezing.
