I got 39/40, which surprised me.  I can't speak worth a damn, but I know my grammar!

High five, Bud, that's really great!  How did you learn French?

I went to a French school in NY for the first 7 years of school.  Then I took it in high school, but pretty much didn't learn anything new there, except for some literature.  Same for college.  Then I taught it at the middle school level.  But honestly, while my accent is pretty good, and I am also pretty good with grammar, I'm not easy with it.   The vocabulary and syntax I need does not often come easily to me.

Now I'm thinking about getting up the gumption to start a homeschool French Club for beginning French for little kids.  If anyone knows of any websites with French games and skits and stories from brand new very young debutants, pass m my way, if you could.

I got a later start than you, 7th through 12th grades.  My 7-8th grade teacher was an ancient WWII Résistance fighter.  We called him "zee little Frenchman"; I was very fond of him.  He taught us songs and poems from his childhood in Le Havre, many of which I still know.

I picked up a decent accent, and can read some, but am unable to converse beyond restaurant French.  I developed an ear for what "sounds right", which helped me with the quiz.

In a conversation, by the time I formulate a sentence, folks are on to the next topic!

Homeschool French club sounds great.

I got 30 out of 40. Rather embarrassing, since I minored in French...but in my defense, it's been seventeen years since I studied the language.

Oh well...c'est la vie!  ;)

How did you do on the quiz Min?

Yeah, I took French in high school too, and that was many years ago. You know what they say: use it or lose it. And I definately lost it. :-\

Thanks, David.  :-*

The extent of my French practice since high school has consisted of several hours in Paris between trains, and a couple of hours at Charles de Gaulle Airport between flights. I triumphed in both cases, as long as you take into account that my speech consisted entirely of simple, present-tense questions ("Où est le train à Prague?" and "Est-ce que ce le train à Prague?"), and the woman at the Info desk in the train station rolled her eyes and answered in English.

Failed with flying colours but got 17 out of 40 purely guessing.   ;D

High school French teacher to Min:  What language are you speaking?

Well see? I only got four more right than you, and I got mostly A's in French. Just goes to show it doesn't pay to study.

Oi, I don't even dare try!

Five years of public school French, and just about all I can remember is Merde! and Zut, alors!
