The extent of my French practice since high school has consisted of several hours in Paris between trains, and a couple of hours at Charles de Gaulle Airport between flights. I triumphed in both cases, as long as you take into account that my speech consisted entirely of simple, present-tense questions ("Où est le train à Prague?" and "Est-ce que ce le train à Prague?"), and the woman at the Info desk in the train station rolled her eyes and answered in English.
