On another subject, I found an interesting and provocative article about Mary Magdalene in the online site, that probably never appeared in the magazine:

... "Moral torque" is a pretty good concept.

And...you know what are our moral torque wrenches? Our cell phones!

I read "The Brood" in the Feb. 16 & 23 issue. It reads like the plot of an episode of the TV show "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit."
"It is required of every man that the spirit within him should walk abroad among his fellow-men, and travel far and wide."--Charles Dickens.

I also read David Remnick's article on Joe Rogan.

I read the article because I remembered a short-lived TV sitcom (turned out it was 30 years ago) that had a Joe Rogan in the cast. The only thing I remember from the sitcom is a scene where the character played by Joe Rogan ripped off his shirt and was muscles for days.

I was wondering if it's the same Joe Rogan.

It is.

I knew TNY's profiles of odious people would end up here.  :-\

...I enjoyed the piece about the 30th anniversary of Infinite Jest, and discussion of how the book has become so male-coded. I love David Foster Wallace's essays and at one point challenged myself as a New Year's resolution to read the almost 1,100 pages of Infinite Jest. I mentioned the plan to my son, who has read the entire book. A couple of months later, he saw the book sitting on a table with a bookmark at about page 17. "Looks more like a finite jest to me," he said.

Meanwhile my Facebook memories feed reminds me that I was reading an article about DFW 17 years ago. I'll bet I won't be reading about Joe Rogan 17 years, or even 17 days from now.

I've never even seen Joe Rogan except in those little short videos with clips from his show.

What was the article you were reading, FRiend? Maybe one by D.T. Max, who wrote a biography of DFW and also writes for TNY?
