"Carol" is some high-class entertainment, with Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara.

I haven't seen it, but from what I've read of it (probably in The New Yorker, possibly other places, too), I don't think I'd want to watch it at Christmas time.

It's from a novel by Patricia Highsmith, who was a lesbian,
"It is required of every man that the spirit within him should walk abroad among his fellow-men, and travel far and wide."--Charles Dickens.

Oh, I didn't noticed that earlier. It got good reviews but it seems considerably less cheerful and heartwarming than a typical Christmas movie on Hallmark. Director Todd Haynes did Far From Heaven, which was pretty bleak. But some of the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes suggest Carol is cheerier than that.
