I gave up doing Strands, but got curious after Chuckie and Sonja were puzzled.

Try saying "orange door hinge" with a cockney accent.  It sounds like "orange-dorange", i.e. they rhyme.  That's why the spangram was "color rhymes".  All the words rhyme with colors.
