Do You Need to Lose Weight?
« on: November 06, 2006, 02:34:03 pm »
Your Weight is Ideal

Your BMI is 23.4 - a healthy BMI falls between 18.5 and 25

Congratulations, you are the perfect weight for your height.
Even though you may not be entirely happy with your weight, you are healthy.
So gain or lose a few pounds if you want, but don't go too crazy!

Is it cheating if I used my weight from August? I've gained a couple of pounds since then (though that was about 5 pounds over what I was in April -- I always lose weight in the first half of the year and gain it back in the second half).

Nothing I couldn't already have guessed at:

You Are Overweight

Your BMI is 30.7 - a healthy BMI falls between 18.5 and 25

You are considered obese, and for your health, you should lose some weight.
Your BMI puts you at a higher risk for type 2 diabetes, heart disease, certain cancers, and joint problems.
Don't starve yourself or crash diet. See a doctor to learn how to lose weight safely.

Just wondering here:  Wouldn't you think that there'd be different charts for men and women?

I've always thought this BMI index seems hokey. First of all, muscles weigh more than fat. So you could actually be more fit, but have a worse score. Second, why is the formula so complicated? Couldn't it just say, if you're wider from side to side than you are up and down, you're overweight?

You Are Somewhat Overweight

Your BMI is 25.8 - a healthy BMI falls between 18.5 and 25

While you aren't obese, you could use to lose a few pounds (unless you're very muscular).
Your BMI puts you at a slightly higher risk for type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers.
Don't starve yourself or crash diet. See a doctor to learn how to lose weight safely.
