Really? I see Ennis as being all of the items on the yin list except "feminine." He's definitely devoted, forgiving, and like fall and winter (likes/doesn't mind the cold), and passive (unless he gets mad). I see him as the moon and Jack as the sun, and metal makes me think of his only traveling around the coffee pot looking for the handle, tripping over all those pots and pans, and shoveling that asphalt. I see Jack as representing space - he is the all outdoors that Ennis keeps looking out the windows to find. I see him chopping wood and I see him being as sweet as honey.
Guess that's just me.
My logic regarding sun/moon and the seasons went just the other way round: Ennis doesn't mind the cold (at least not as much as Jack) because he
is the sun, the spring and the summer, therefore is warm by himself.
Jack is the cold(er) moon, fall and winter, therefore needs the sun's/spring's/summer's = Ennis' warmth.
Jack=metall and Ennis=wood is plain as day to me (very scientific again
).
And the honey? I think honey is even sweeter than chocolate. I think Ennis is sweet, but Jack is sometimes (most notably in the earlier years) even sweeter, almost puppy-like, almost too sweet (for my personal taste, others will probably see this different).
