Hi Scott,

I can't play the video, long story about speakers, I won't bore you with it!  But reading the lyrics in my head, I hear the Eagles version and I must say that this song is absolutely perfect.  It fits perfectly.

Jack:

Lay your head where my heart used to be
Hold the earth above me
Lay down in the green grass
Remember when you loved me

Come closer don't be shy
Stand beneath a rainy sky
The moon is over the rise
Think of me as a train goes by

Clear the thistles and brambles
Whistle 'Didn't He Ramble'
Now there's a bubble of me
And it's floating in thee

Stand in the shade of me
Things are now made of me
The weather vane will say...
It smells like rain today

God took the stars and he tossed 'em
Can't tell the birds from the blossoms
You'll never be free of me
He'll make a tree from me

Don't say good bye to me
Describe the sky to me
And if the sky falls, mark my words
We'll catch mocking birds

Lay your head where my heart used to be
Hold the earth above me
Lay down in the green grass
Remember when you loved me

---Green Grass
    by Tom Waits

[maybe not the line "now theres a bubble of me..etc]

Ennis:

There's a hundred bluebirds
Up above the clouds
Putting all the color in the sky
And twice as many tear drops
there to wash it down
Every one's another lullaby
But there's only one and only
Who could go and leave me lonely
There's a world of trouble
Trying to take its turn
I can hear it shaking underground
And half a dozen lessons
I might never learn
Not until them troubles come around
But there's only one and only
Who could go and leave me lonely
There's a mile of blacktop
Where the road begins
It takes a time or two to recognize
Growing at the roadside
Scattered by the wind
Are everybody's unsaid sad goodbyes

But there's only one and only
Who could go and leave me lonely
You're the only one and only
Why'd you go and leave me alone

---Only One and Only

Imagine this is Ennis singing:

Strong Enough by Sheryl Crow

God, I feel like hell tonight
Tears of rage I cannot fight
I'd be the last to help you understand
Are you strong enough to be my man?
Nothing's true and nothing's right
So let me be alone tonight
Cause you can't change the way I am
Are you strong enough to be my man?

Lie to me
I promise I'll believe
Lie to me
But please don't leave

I have a face I cannot show
I make the rules up as I go
It's try and love me if you can
Are you strong enough to be my man?

When I've shown you that I just don't care
When I'm throwing punches in the air
When I'm broken down and I can't stand
Will you be man enough to be my man?

Lie to me
I promise I'll believe
Lie to me
But please don't leave

"To be alone with you" by Sufjan Stevens. I think of Ennis alone in his trailer at the end, remembering Jack.

Sorry, I don't know how to paste the actual video into the message as people seem to be doing!

I'd swim across lake Michigan
I'd sell my shoes
I'd give my body to be back again
In the rest of the room

To be alone with you
To be alone with you
To be alone with you
To be alone with you

You gave your body to the lonely
They took your clothes
You gave up a wife and a family
You gave your goals

To be alone with me
To be alone with me
To be alone with me
You went up on a tree

To be alone with me you went up on the tree

I'll never know the man who loved me

"Time Passes Slowly"

Time passes slowly up here in the mountain
We sit beside the bridges and walk beside the fountains
Catch the wild fishes that float though the stream
Time passes slowly when you're lost in a dream.

Once I had a sweetheart, she was fine and good-looking
She sat in the kitchen while her mama was cooking
Stared on out the window to the stars high above
Time passes slowly when you're searching for love.

Ain't no reason to go in a wagon to town
Ain't no reason to go to the fair
Ain't no reason to go up, ain't no reason to go down
Ain't no reason to go anywhere.

Time passes slowly up here in the daylight
We stare straight ahead and try so hard to stay right
Like the red rose of summer that blooms in the day
Time passes slowly and fades away.

Heya,

I've posted this before in a thread here somewhere about songs that remind us of Ennis.  But, I think it works for both Ennis and Jack just as well.  I heard this song again today on the radio... and it never fails to make me think of BBM.

Fleetwood Mac- "Landslide"

I took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
till the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky
What is love
Can the child within my heart rise above
Can I sail thru the changing ocean tides
Can I handle the seasons of my life

Well, Ive been afraid of changing
cause Ive built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older
Im getting older too

Oh, take my love, take it down
Climb a mountain and turn around
If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide will bring it down

If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well maybe the landslide will bring it down

Isn't it the best?  :-*  I remember posting this a long time ago, too, but I can't remember where. I especially love the Dixie Chicks version...

I have always loved this song, best saxophone solo in the world ever. But the words are just so apt for the 1st tent scene, the reunion scene, and also how Ennis says so much, yet never says a word.

It is called WILL YOU by HAZEL OCONNOR.

Its getting kind of late,
I wonder if you'll stay now
or will you just politely say goodnight.

I move a little closer to you,
not knowing quite what to do,
and I'm feeling all fingers and thumbs.

And then we touch, much to much
this moment has been waiting for a long long time.
It makes me shiver, makes me quiver,
this moment I am so unsure,
this moment I have waited for.
is it something you've been waiting for.
waiting for too?

Take of your eyes, bare your soul,
gather me to you and make me whole,
tell me your secrets, sing me the song,
sing it to me in the silent tongue.

So many of the words seem so apt.

This moment has been waiting for a long time.

Then we touch much to much.

This moment I am so unsure.

Is it something you've been waiting for too.

Gather me to you make me whole.

Sing it to me in the silent tongue.

The melody in itself is stunning,I.M.O, the sax solo is breathtaking ,and it seems to me to sum up so much of the sexual and emotional relationship between Jack and Ennis. Both the tent scene and the reunion scene.

Well I hope you love the song as much as I do.Not only do I love the sentiment, and think it a musical description of Jack  and Ennis,I just love the fact that the melody is so haunting. It always moves me to the core. There is an underlying feeling of sadness to the whole thing.

Girl, You know I love Miss Eva!

Here is another song I can see Ennis in. The song reminds me of Jack but it captures how Ennis must have felt.

This one makes me cry.

Autum Leaves
Eva Cassidy

The falling leaves
Drift by my window.
The falling leaves of red and gold.

I see your lips,
the summer kisses,
the sunburned hands i used to hold.

Since you went away
the days grow long
And soon i'll hear old winter song
But i miss you most of all my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall

Since you went away
the days grow long
And soon i'll hear old winter song
But i miss you most of all my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall

I miss you most of all my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall

This song was written by my fellow Geargia boy Johnny Mercer

I absolutely luv this one

Appologies if I've posted this already, but this is a song that reminds me of Ennis and Jack remembering their time on the mountain.

Brothers in Arms

These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Some day youll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And youll no longer burn
To be brothers in arms

Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
Ive watched all your suffering
As the battles raged higher
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms

Theres so many different worlds
So many differents suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones

Now the suns gone to hell
And the moons riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But its written in the starlight
And every line on your palm
Were fools to make war
On our brothers in arms

-Mark Knopfler
