Breakfast this morning was my current Saturday morning guilty pleasure: a Jimmy Dean-brand sausage-egg-and-cheese-on-a-croissant sandwich.

I also had a pot of Arbuckle's coffee.

The coffee was sent to me by Friend OCD. Arbuckle's is an old, old brand that was a favorite of cowboys in the olden days. It's not a coffee for the faint of heart; it's very strong-tasting. The company continues its historic practice of packaging an old-fashioned peppermint stick in each pound package of the coffee. It is said that back in the day, when the coffee was sold only in bean form, the cowboys used to compete for the job of using the coffee grinder to grind the beans for the cook in order to get the peppermint stick.  ;D When ranchers bought supplies for cattle drives, they would buy hundreds of pounds of Arbuckle's coffee.  ;D

Supper: a small eye round steak, leftover macaroni and cheese, peas, a biscuit, and ginger snaps for dessert.

I prepared the leftover mac and cheese the way my mother did back in the pre-microwave era: I fried them in butter.

Made my own ramen noodles last night. The broth was good (a combination of dashi and kombu) but there was something missing. More trials tonight.

A very rare morning it was today, when coffee, egg, and toast all came out perfectly.

90 percent of the time, I have the same breakfast every day: one egg, over easy, cooked in a cast iron pan, toast, sliced from a loaf of take-and-bake sourdough, a piece of fruit, and two cups of decaf coffee with whole milk. Today it all came together perfectly so I will take it as an augur of the day that is to come (vigorously knocking on wood!).

Today at home I had a breakfast of one egg, scrambled, with turkey sausages and a cup of good, old-fashioned "8 O'Clock" brand coffee with 2% milk.

Since I had a long walk to work this morning, thanks to the Super Bowl victory parade for the Philadelphia Eagles, I decided to act like a hobbit and have a "second breakfast" of two doughnuts and a large coffee.    ;D

I'm taking a seminar this week and so I am staying at a big business hotel. I enjoy the breakfast here very much, because in my everyday life I mostly just take some coffee (with nothing to eat).
Today I had toast and scrambled eggs, fruit salad and coffee of course.
