I love the sheep, but I wanted to pick up the pace of changing the banner more often.  John is trying to figure out a way to increase the amount of banner image and decrease the pesky yellowing "info bar" that covers at least 1/3rd of it.  Take a look at this and see why the banner alone cannot do the image justice!  (Use the scroll bar at the bottom of the message to pan right and left. Your browser can also capture the image.)

That's a very beautiful picture Phillip.

I'm starting to wonder how on earth I'm going to be able to take photographs in Alberta that really reflect the beauty and vastness of the place... :-\

Take them with your mind's eye; smell the air deeply; touch the surfaces & textures you encounter; sit or lay for a while to just listen to, feel and sense the place;  & remember the feeling of the place in your heart.  Then, along with any "proper" photos you take you'll have the perfect memory.

A good tip is to actually get a photo of you in the scenery, not just as a souvenir pic, but of you enjoying it somehow - stretched out on a rock, paddling in the river, arms round a tree, that kind of thing...with you not overly prominent in the composition.  They might not be the prize aesthetic photos in your collection but should help bring back the sensations you had at the time when you look at them again.

What I'd love to do is find someone who can take a digital recording w/ microphone and just record the natural sounds of locations like these and provide the audio so that folks can sit back, relax, and experience the atmosphere even more.

I am planning to make some banners for your consideration and put them here. I take it you want a 1688x1126 RGB JPEG at 72 dpi with a pixel depth of 8 at about 1.3 mB. Will that work??

The wider they are the better - that seems to be the most important criteria so that people with very hi-res displays don't see the banner end and then re-start again.  The length is very limiting because the forum software covers up a lot of the image.  In general, the higher resolution the better because John can always re-render the image at a lower rate just before it goes up.  Thanks for the forthcoming contributions!

I posted four in low-res starting here:

When I tried to upload the hi-res versions, DivShare wouldn't take them for some reason.

You can upload them to the site here now that I greatly increased the size limits for file attachments.
